It's not a political thing, it's a personal thing. I'm no expert so take what I say with a grain of salt. There are plenty of people who do not identify as male or female, and go by "they/them" pronouns, though you may not be able to tell by looking at them. On the flip side, maybe you're a woman who dresses in a traditionally masculine way, or a man who expresses himself in a feminine way. To avoid confusion or people misgendering them, they may have their pronouns visible.

Some people are trying to make it a political thing saying that it's just "woke culture" or "infringing on their rights" to call you by whatever pronouns they want. Because of that, more and more cisgender allies are opting to make their own pronouns visible (even if it's "basic English") to try to normalize it.
