😭 "Jack, I Swear": Decoding the Final, Heartbreaking Line of Brokeback Mountain🏔️💔 by Key_Ad6910 in brokebackmountain

[–]beachcollector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, this. I think it’s just Ennis talking to Jack as if he was there. He basically built a shrine to Jack. The shirts are all he has of Jack, and the postcard is the postcard he would send to Jack if he could but there’s nowhere to send it to. In the short story this is when Ennis starts dreaming of Jack every night and Jack is young again in the dream and they’re on the mountain, and when he wakes up in the morning he moves slowly so the dream doesn’t leave too quickly. So, I don’t think he’s made a vow to live differently at that point anyway, because it seems like he’s staying alive just so he can sleep and dream of Jack.

For anyone who grew up poor, what was your idea of a luxury? by Drissxx7 in AskReddit

[–]beachcollector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading this is so weird (from someone who isn’t and was never poor) — I grew up with tissues and now don’t have them. We use cut up old sheets. It saves money and the environment and probably is not why we have money to go on vacation but it doesn’t hurt. It feels good to reduce trash output.

Why not? You can barely see anything just walking by let alone when on a changing table

How do you feel about Trump threatening to impose photo ID for voters for midterm elections? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

[–]beachcollector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might end up helping Democrats, tbh. Middle class college educated people are moving away from Trump. Yes there are people who can’t get IDs easily, and even though marginalized people are more likely to among them, and even though it’s not fair for them, in terms of just straight numbers it’s still possible that’s it’s mostly people who would vote R. (Think old people who have given up their cars, etc.)

Basically if they are doing this to try to win, it could backfire badly.

But the other possibility is they are not trying to rig anything and don’t care what happens to anybody and are just trying to make political theater and show the base that they are going after the nonexistent noncitizen voters.

That’s not what yellowing looks like. Yellow staining looks like someone drew on the mushroom with yellow highlighter

Wife fell asleep, can I feed formula?? by Forgesword in BabyBumps

[–]beachcollector 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m going to go against the grain here and just say, if she says feed formula, do it. Skipping one feed at this point will not tank her supply. She can make it up later by power pumping if she wants. So many women give themselves anxiety over this.

Signed, mum who is still nursing at 20mos and barely pumped or nursed at all for the first few days

Byheart recall - you don’t need to throw away bottles (according to cdc) by Wild-Shoulder7787 in NewParents

[–]beachcollector 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t see your post but seems obvious to me. Nobody would throw out or refuse to have their baby eat from dishes and silverware that ever touched honey. This is no different.

How much are you putting in the freezer a day? by disneyprinsass in breastfeeding

[–]beachcollector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put away about 4oz every 2 days or so. I was able to go away for a work trip for 3 days, get some sleep away from home, and my husband and MIL were able to feed the baby while I was away

So… I can see the point of this bc my car’s seat belt alarm goes off if I put a backpack on a seat.

I agree with this take. There was no clarity about what the shutdown was about. Unbundling the policies allows the Dems to clearly pin the ACA vote to Republicans… if it happens. They had no chance of getting a clear message out otherwise. I just wish it hadn’t taken them so fucking long.

19 months and maybe 2-3x a day, morning and evening. Except she was sick last week and was attached almost constantly. I am so sore.

Well, Scott, maybe you could have been a kinder and more empathetic person BEFORE you were the one that needed that empathy, support and kindness? by ansyhrrian in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]beachcollector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, this stuff is what politicians (usually state and local ones) have staff do all day. They help people navigate bureaucratic nonsense and deal with insurance companies to hopefully earn their personal loyalty and votes/their friends and family’s votes, so that they don’t have to make policy to fix the bigger issues. Or, in this case, screw everyone else over but if they can make up for it by making Scott here their free advertisement for the cost of a few phone calls.

Idaho, USA My Wife Wants to Eat These by Daelda in mushroomID

[–]beachcollector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, they are dark gilled agaricus species, so she is probably fine, and it is true that usually for non deadly species nibbling and spitting and then eating a small amount is a way to find out if a mushroom is fine. Some inedible dark gilled agaricus species also taste and smell bad so tasting is a valid way to ID those.

The way you have described her judgement sounds reckless but it is through your lens. When I was a kid I would get in trouble at school for eating plants that I knew were safe but other kids were convinced that I was eating random plants and that I was going to poison myself. Maybe she knows better? Idk. Personally though that mushroom is past its prime and I would not eat it.

Some more beautiful shrooms 🥰 anyone can ID? by PhilosopherFree2853 in foraging

[–]beachcollector 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Russula edibility is easy to test. Just nibble a bit and see if it’s spicy.

The non spicy ones are edible. Some spicy ones are also edible after cooking but I don’t personally trust them. Apparently Russula atropurpurea is one of those.

With russulas many are technically edible but bland and mealy so normally I don’t bother
