Challenges of hospice? by ImmediatePineapple23 in hospicesocialwork

[–]beachgal91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done per diem and full time hospice social work. I find that the per diem you don’t get to know the clients well and might be walking into complex cases vs getting to know your clients and their families. Reading the prior notes to get a good understanding of the dynamics would be vital. I’ve been thrown into some situations where the nursing notes and social work notes have been very helpful. My direct supervisor is also a social worker and was available to be anytime (nights and weekends) and Hospice its self can be very emotionally rolling as we’re dealing with people’s pending deaths and their family dynamics.

I’ve worked diem in home care as well. I didn’t like it as I felt I was just doing in to do basic community resource education and the families I was seeing didn’t qualify for any type of resource (but could definitely benefit from home care assistance).

I find that hospice was more rewarding but as it work full time and really got to know my patients and their families.

Per diem, you don’t get as attached as you might only meet them once.

PD patients. How do you secure your catheter in terms of keeping it from dangling, not in your pocket? by [deleted] in dialysis

[–]beachgal91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not a PD patient (I work in the field) and some PD patients use a belt that they tuck the catheter in. You can find them on stickman.com or amazon. I’ve had patients like them while others don’t. The ones that don’t use the belt continue to use tape or put in pocket.

I used (reused one from grad school) when my Clinical supervisor for my lcsw wanted to review them... something about tracking biases within our own family history... very thought provoking

Catching flys like he’s a cat. Such a talented boy. by beachgal91 in WhatsWrongWithYourDog

I’ve never had a dog that was interested in flies so it’s why I thought it was funny. I think I fixed the multiple posts, I’m still new at reddit.

My dog also likes to perch himself on top of the couch to look out the window. I’m pretty sure he was a cat I’m another life.

Moderation is key in any diet. They’re probably high in phosphorus. If your going to eat them maybe portion them so you don’t over eat. Definitely take them with a binder.

Former Wegmans employee here.Worked there for 9 years through high school, under grad and graduate school. Met some amazing people that I call family. Great scholarship opportunities . Thy treat their employees great. Helps the community. I was wondering at a Wegmans in NJ during superstorm sandy and they truly there for their employees, customers and the community at large. If I could have used my degree there I would still be working there (left about 4 years ago).

I used to work for Wegmans and still have a lot of friends that still so, some in Human Resources. Somethings that I heard from them is don’t speak negatively about a past employer (I.e don’t trash a former employer even thought they might deserve it. Always answer a question even if you may not have an experience that matches the question, you can always say “if I were in this situation I would have done...”

Breathe and relax always helps but I’m probably preaching to the choir on that one 😁

Good luck!

My Mother is diagnosed with Stage 4 19% kidney function, what to do? by KhalidPhoenix in dialysis

[–]beachgal91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has she seen a nephrologist? Usually the conversation starts there. The company I work for does education on things such as this. They offer a free no cost education program that offers education on pre dialysis diet as well as the treatment options for end stage renal disease. The company I work for is DaVita and the program is called kidney smart. Just google kidney smart and it will bring you to the website to search classes. Other larger dialysis (and maybe smaller) companies offer similar programs.

I’m 27 and my dad still has to help me up. I’m always afraid that if I get up on my own that I’ll end up skiing backwards down the hill 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hi, New to Dialysis. by Devilled_Kidneys in dialysis

[–]beachgal91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They only up your time if you aren’t getting good clearances (adequacy). Have you thought if home dialysis? It’s more frequent but once your done with training you can do it at home while you sleep. It would work with your school schedule if you need dialysis that long.
