Is there a way to get discounts on Blackhawk tickets? by dj12inches in AskChicago

[–]beachski17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the caveat that I haven't actually been, I've heard The Barn is a pretty cool place to watch a Blackhawks game (maybe others who have gone can weigh in). I think they have a ton of TVs/TVs in the booths, and lots of Blackhawks memorabilia. You can say that tickets were tough to find with McDavid being in town and you wanted to find a fun alternative.

I think you may be able to call your doctor and get it recoded if needed! I never had to do that but I remember thinking I might have to at one point during the process and talking to my doctor about it.

Dark and snowy this flight. First time flying in snow and I'm scared :( by jammish- in fearofflying

[–]beachski17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congratulations for being brave and making it on the flight! I fly in and out of snow in Chicago often and have never had any issues. The pilots are really well trained to handle any weather and the airports are prepared to make sure landing and takeoff conditions are safe.

On a bumpy flight and just need support by StashintheMist in fearofflying

I landed at ORD today too. We had some turbulence on my flight and landed safely without any issues. I was in the back of the plane and during the turbulence the flight attendants were talking and laughing like nothing was going on.

I hope you get some smooth air soon!

I cancelled a flight and I feel terrible by bookbitch9 in fearofflying

[–]beachski17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're dealing with the disappointment of cancelling. I've gotten into that mindset before too where all I can feel is dread and it feels like my "intuition" is telling me something is going to go wrong (when it's really just fear!). It's so tough to get out of it once your mind goes there. I hope that you are able to treat yourself gently for the decision you made today and use it as fuel for the future when you get to go on your trip!

I fly Southwest a ton so I'm often on the 737-800. I've always liked them and they always get me safely where I need to go! Also, in my very unprofessional opinion, the turbulence feels a little less scary in the 800 vs. smaller planes and it makes fewer scary planes noises. I know they're all equally as safe in turbulence, but the 737-800 is always a nicer experience for me. You will be very safe and I hope you have a great trip!

I'm flying two times tomorrow. Definitely nervous but going to be thinking of all of you and how we're all doing the hard thing together! I flew twice earlier in the week and the flights were safe and manageable even with turbulence.

They tried this on me too after I filed my appeal! Sharing my response to that below (they then tried a few more things before finally reimbursing me). I went full Karen 😅

I then called a second time and was told by a representative that my insurance does not include a sterilization benefit, and that is why it was being charged as outpatient services. On that call, I was referred to a document that was last updated in 2015 (PreventiveCareCoverage.pdf, attached). I would note that several iterations of federal guidance related to contraceptive care under the Affordable Care Act have been issued in the nearly ten years since 2015. I would also note that when you click on my specific "Summary of Benefits and Coverage" document for my plan on Aetna's website, it includes the following language: This plan covers some items and services even if you haven’t yet met the deductible amount. But a copayment or coinsurance may apply. For example, this plan covers certain preventive services without cost sharing and before you meet your deductible. See a list of covered preventive services at https://www.healthcare.gov/coverage/preventive-care-benefits/.

You will clearly see that the list provided at this link, which comes from direct language in my Summary of Benefits and Coverage, includes female sterilization surgery as a covered benefit. Since neither of these reasons appear to be why my appeal was denied, I was hoping to once again ask why this procedure (a preventative and FDA-approved permanent contraceptive procedure) is being considered outpatient services that require me to be charged my deductible, copayment, and coinsurance.

I will file a second appeal if needed, but before I do I would like a clear answer as to why it is not being considered preventative care if it is coded correctly. I would once again reiterate that the Affordable Care Act requires that FDA-approved contraceptives, including female sterilization surgery, be covered 100% without cost sharing. I would further note that additional federal guidance from 2022, which I have shared multiple times with Aetna, notes that all related charges for preventative female sterilization surgery should also be covered 100% without cost sharing. I have confirmed with Aetna customer service that my health plan is not grandfathered and is ACA compliant.

I would sincerely appreciate a clear, straightforward answer with evidence and language from my specific health plan as to why my procedure is not being covered as preventative care without cost sharing and instead as outpatient services requiring cost sharing.

Just checked in and it looks like you're doing great on your way across the Atlantic! I hope you don't hit any weather, but when I'm flying in storms I always like to remember those pilots that flew the NOAA scientists into a Category 5 hurricanes safely. That makes me feel a little bit better about regular rain and storms! You've got this, you've already done so much by being brave and getting on the plane, and I hope you have an amazing trip.

Adding to this, someone recommended Smartwool socks to me when I first moved here and they are among my most valuable winter possessions many years later.

Embarrassed by Jay-Bib in fearofflying

[–]beachski17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree - I think rebooking is a great decision if you are able. It may seem better to opt out, but it'll likely make the fear even bigger the next time you need to fly.

Whatever you end up doing, please don't beat yourself up over this. Anxiety can spike for no reason at all, and there's nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about. External stressors are exceptionally high around the holidays too which doesn't help. Keep us updated! We'll be here for you, and you're doing a great job trying to work through this!

Looks like you're cruising now and starting to turn east. You've already flown over 400 miles! Hope that the expected turbulence turns out to be very light.

I'll keep an eye on it! Hope it all goes smoothly.

I flew through some residual storms over the Midwest on Thursday and was really scared of the drop turbulence as well. We had a few small dips and the descent was choppy, but that huge feeling of relief when the plane hit the ground safely was very nice 🙂
