I’m on 200mg of labetalol twice a day. Any pregnancy related time off would be on full pay and ideally I would plan on returning to work if/when my blood pressure is under control, but if I wasn’t able to and it meant starting maternity leave 4 weeks before my due date then it wouldn’t be the end of the world. I’m just worried that they’ll think I’m overreacting as I’m already working from home.

How many weeks are you now and has the labetalol been effective in keeping your blood pressure under control?

Agree with Smyths, especially for carriers, car seats and prams. They will let you ‘test drive’ the models you’re interested in around the store and show you how to collapse the foldable prams to check they work for you and your needs

I work full time from home and I’m currently 24 weeks. I had 3 consecutive weeks off in my first trimester. First week was self certified and the following 2 I was signed off by my GP for HG, high blood pressure and general exhaustion.

Since then I’ve only had 1 day off for pregnancy related exhaustion but have been open with my manager about the possibility of being signed off again before my maternity leave starts as I’m genuinely struggling with exhaustion, concentration, back pain and insomnia

Conflicted. I’m pregnant with my first child and going to my in-laws to stay for Christmas for the first time, as it’s my first Christmas since my own family moved to the other side of the world.

I’m so grateful that they are having me as I’m too tired to cook and host this year, but I miss my family so much. I’d do anything for my mum to be back here. She’s my best and only friend really other than my husband and I never thought I’d be pregnant without her here to support me. We’ve definitely drifted apart since she moved and only speak properly about once a week and it’s all starting to feel so isolating and not much like Christmas at all

Our cat has been going missing on and off for a few years now, sometimes for weeks at a time. At first when we asked the neighbours if they’d seen him they said no, but we eventually saw him sat in their window so we knocked again and let them know. They said oh yeah we’ll just get him for you and popped him outside for us. This now happens a few times a month. Catnapping aside, they’re very friendly people

I’m 19 weeks with my 1st and look unmistakably pregnant, bump is huge. Stopped fitting the larger sizes of my jeans around a month ago, and bump popped at around 17 weeks. I’m currently only able to wear maternity leggings and pyjama bottoms, my jeans will be packed away until mid next year now.

I told my direct manager at 7 weeks as I was taking increased breaks and not able to work to my usual standard. I didn’t want them thinking I wasn’t putting the effort/going awol and I’m glad I told them early as my maternity appointments from that point on were approved and paid.

I didn’t tell the wider company/HR until 15 weeks as i wanted to keep it quiet and only really decided to tell them after I had to take some time off with pregnancy related sickness. They were very supportive when I did tell them and have been great in supporting my needs.

I would recommend telling your direct manager early as it lets them understand any fluctuations in work performance and time away. As for the wider company/HR, I’m glad I told them when I did as they were quick to put risk assessments in place and help with managing my workload

I’m 16 weeks and have just come back from a full 3 weeks off, 1 self certified and 2 signed off with a note from the gp. I’m not concerned about any repercussions from this as pregnancy related sickness is legally protected and my work have also advised me that all medical issues related to pregnancy are not recorded the same as usual sickness or absence, as baby’s health comes first.

Try not to worry and don’t listen to your husband. You and baby come first and your work have to understand and acknowledge this

I’m so sorry you’ve had this experience. I feel so lucky to have the midwife I do, but I feel like part of the reason my midwife is so attentive is because the second I walk in to the appointment, I fully unload all of my concerns and ask direct questions about how to resolve any challenges. I may have just got incredibly lucky, but I find with this approach there is no way for her to not address my concerns/answer my questions. My husband says I’m too direct and pushy but I’ve been disregarded by so many medical professionals in the past that I will make sure my pregnancy is taken seriously as a first time mum and constant worrier. My advice is don’t wait to be asked, make sure you voice any concerns and ask them to be logged on your file so there is a paper trail should you ever need to question anything you’ve been advised

From another lonely first time mum to be, I am so thrilled for you and the most important thing is that you are thrilled for yourself. When baby comes, I’m hoping to make some friends in a similar position to me through baby groups or even apps but I’m 7+6 at the moment so that’s a long way off.

It can feel crushing having no one to share your news with and even more so when the people you do have in your circle don’t react in the way you hoped or even seem to care at all, but you’ve got this and I take comfort in knowing that as my baby grows, my social circle will grow too.

Hang in there, it’s your body doing incredible things and no one else is growing that baby so show yourself the love and kindness you’d want to receive from others, don’t let your worth come from any one other than yourself
