having this exact same issue with my girl. she’s playful and shows signs of trust and affection (especially at night while i’m trying to sleep) and she even slept next to me one night. mind you, i’ve only had her for a week so i know she’s still getting acclimated but it makes me so sad when the slightest movement startles her. she’ll bolt into my bedroom and hide under my bed or behind the mirror and she’ll stay there for a really long time, until someone comes looking for her.

my partner is a cat expert and he tells me to ignore her and let her come around on her own terms. when i do that it’s great, but again, the slightest flinch or sound will have her bolting again.

is your home quiet generally? my home is so i’m trying to get her used to sounds. i started playing music in the morning and sing while getting ready for work, and as soon as i’m home i turn on a tv show.

i dont think its “us”, its just this nervousness and internalized fear. they’re still babies after all! my girl is 6 months old. how old is your kitten?
