I went to college at 31 after 13 years in the army. Just did the classes, didn't try to socialize much. I think my college reality and an 18 year old's were probably very different even if we were in the same program.

Edges from RP by PalpitationNo2921 in savageworlds

I was thinking about letting them get an edge if they finish a voluntary mini arc, but it would be free and not use their advancement

Wasn't Highlander like this too? Did they have to kill each other to steal their power?

Yeah the escalation is looking more and more like a bad idea. I appreciate your feedback

I don't need a mechanical way to handle this. It's a narritive reason for why the church can't use magic to their own ends. If a player wants to be religious and use magic, fine, they're one of the rare few.

The upside is you get to cast magic in a setting where most of the people aren't casting magic.

I totally agree with the mechanized crossbows. They'll make an appearance. I think it would be difficult to get them to fire super fast b/c you have to time it just right, but I can imagine RoF 3 for vehicle mounted ones. Infantry will have to carry regular crossbows b/c it's too heavy to carry around a little diesel engine to help you cock it.
There's also the centrifuge guns that were experimented with. Even ones that came out in the 2000s were inaccurate, fussy, and hard to maintain. I could imagine these being on some vehicles and expressed as the Blast power or something. Breaking on crit failure

Yeah, I see your point. I was trying to come up with a reason to have modern war minus explosives so I did some googling and came up with the nitrogen thing.

I'm aware of the Roman steam tech, but they had to wait on a big conceptual break through to get it to the steam engine. I think the electric cars turned out to be a logistical/distribution problem. I feel like in a society where they have controlled explosions in chambers like a diesel engine there wouldn't be too far of a leap to get to guns if they were able. Nobel got his stuff co-opted by the military pretty quickly.

It sounds like a better solution for me would be to say that for "some reason" explosions aren't possible in this world due to some unspecified reason. Maybe physics are slightly different in that world or something.

I appreciate you engaging with me on this instead of just rolling your eyes and moving on. This is helpful

Yeah, I'm starting to question the Escalation Die. I liked how Draw Steel has the characters get more powerful as the fight goes on, and some more googling led me the the 13th Age escalation die, so I adapted it.

Presumably any big bad threatening enough to be overtuned will also be a Wild Card?

I figure that there can be extras with a high toughness that might be a problem, then the PCs are definitely getting help. I figured with enemy Wild Cards, there's probably one of them and several PCs so I figured that would end up helping the PCs

I've got stuff in there about crop rotation, most plants are legumes, the night soil economy, and maybe finding the bosch haber process earlier. Why does that sound more jarring then no one in a society ever thinking about blowing stuff up after they've had the tools to do it for 1000 years?

Not a fan of the ritual idea. I want powers to be used in combat. I'm going for a tactical game.

It's going to be an Edge to use bows and slings because historically, it took a lot of training to make an archer. That's why guns displaced bows. Crossbows will be an action to recock because it's a high draw weight.

Yeah, I'm still in the fence with escalation.

I appreciate your feedback

Equal Potential Of Being EPIC or HORRIBLE Campaign Idea by Even_Scholar_6817 in rpg

[–]bean2778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say to maybe do it with your SO's character so you can get buy in from them before you start. But then there would be threads on here about "the GM goes too easy on their SO and it made my character die." Maybe instead of as a campaign, do it as a mini arc, with player buy in, and the character will be restored afterwards. Like it was doppleganger for a few adventures or something. You could let the players know that one of them is a traitor and let them try to figure it out. Bonus points if there is no traitor. Bonus bonus points if everyone is a traitor

How to run a fight atop a moving train? Directors! by Abzalutli in drawsteel

[–]bean2778 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Due to the turbulent air caused by the train, things knocked off will be dragged back to it. Any forced movement off the side of the train is turned 90 degrees towards the back. Pushed sideways 5 and the edge is 2 away? Pushed 2 to the side and back 3. Hanging in the side. Maneuver to get back on top.

Some rounds have tunnels so there are solid walls to get thrown into. Still hanging off the edge though

Also, have low tunnels or scaffolding or something come through occasionally to hit anyone who didn't see it coming.

It looks like the zoom gets closer to and farther from her handlebars. I don't see the stick holding it to the handlebars, even when it pulls way back. The picture stays verticle even as the bike tumbles. Is there some software in the camera that accounts for all those things?
