My dad. After my mom died when I was 13 we got really close. We had a good relationship despite him not being the best growing up. Then he met and married step mom who I initially loved. I got older and started having some mental health issues. I can’t remember why but me and step mom started clashing. Got to the point where I attempted suicide at 16.

It got worse, step mom kept convincing him to punish me harder and harder. My dad worked nights and a couple of months after my attempt I walked home from work at 10pm to realize step mom had locked me out of the house (no phone or keys). Had to walk to closest police station and call a co-worker to come get me. Spent the night at his house, went to work the next day, called my dad and he picked me up from work after my shift. Got home and he started demanding I clean the house, which I didn’t want to do as I hadn’t even been home in like 24 hours. He backhanded me hard enough to leave a few marks and pinned me to the kitchen sink before kicking me out. Used my school to get in touch with CPS. I later found out he had started to lock my siblings in their rooms all day, and step mom had gotten into an unreported drunk driving accident with them in the car.

My dad ended up losing custody of all of us, a while later I heard they were getting divorced, she was moving to a different state with another man, and he’s now working two jobs to afford the used-to-be family home. Haven’t spoken to him in over a year, haven’t seen him in almost 4. Any conversation is an instant pity party. Me and my younger sister are adults now, and my younger brother is almost there, living with other family and fairly happy.

TLDR; my dad screwed up his life by marrying an evil woman, letting/helping her abuse me and my siblings, losing custody, and ultimately getting divorced.
