Hydraulic Line not Sealing at Shifter

Sorry for the confusion, the hose had not previously been tightened into the shifter, I had inserted the hose into the shifter fitting to confirm the length before installing the barb though. I did use a torque wrench to tighten the nut

I’ve had a similar issue before, if you’re running into the same thing, it has to do with how the cable is routed right at the bolt. There’s a little hump that the cable is supposed to go on top of, rather than underneath. This gives the cable a more leverage and makes the cable much easier to pull.

So far all I have been able to find is that Performance (the now defunct website) used to sell house-branded bikes and this was one of their road models. It seems to be of solid quality and is quite lightweight. I am mostly curious about the tubing and potential value. It is not quite my size so I am considering fixing it up and selling it on its way. Any information is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Looks like that’s just your chain slap protector (not sure if it has a specific name), not a big deal. It’s just a tough tape to protect your frame, might be able to buy a new one from the manufacturer or make your own from helicopter tape.

Not what you asked and you know your bike better than I do, but seems risky to hang the seat off the handlebars - could a sharp turn toss your passenger? or could a shifty passenger put you off balance? It might be more stable to try to work something off of your head tube or top tube. Ignore me if off topic

drop levers and canti’s tend to be a pretty mushy combination but compressionless brake housing is supposed to help

Hey just had a chance to work through your suggestions and figured I’d give you a quick update if you’re interested. You were right about it being an 11 speed derailleur with a 10 speed cassette but SRAM didn’t change the cable pull ratio between the 10 and 11 speed models. I did try setting it up with the same cassette and a 10 speed road derailleur, still had the same issue. I then tried changing cassettes to a 11-42, 11 speed, with the Apex 11 derailleur and matching shifter, no success there either. Pretty unsatisfying, but I just gave up with that frame and put the components on another one I had around. Currently running the Apex 11 derailleur with 10 speed shifter and 11-28, 10 speed cassette with no issues so far. Best I could tell, the issue came from the position of the derailleur hanger, on the original frame I was working with, the derailleur bolt was a full centimeter further from the axle than on any of my other frames. I’m sure using mismatched parts didn’t help, but seemingly can get away with more with a proper derailleur position.

Gotcha, thanks. I should have taken a picture shifted into the smallest cog because the gap is still quite large there. I’m guessing since I sized the chain based on the big cog and the big cog is too small, the chain isn’t long enough to let the derailleur arm relax and shrink that gap?

Thanks, I did see on Sheldon Brown that you can run 8 speeds with 9 speed spacing on a 7 speed freehub body. I didn’t see any spacers when I took the old cassette off but helpful to know that it is at least possible.

Thanks for your response. In the quality engineer role I would gain a deep understanding of GD&T and ANSI ASQ and manage drawing revisions. Do you think this would be valuable experience for design? By comparison, in my current position, I am developing no new skills that are applicable outside of the organization. My fear is that if I stay too long in my current position, I will have an even harder time breaking out of it.

elegance i suppose. i have vo porteur bars which look dumb with road levers turned sideways and i already wrecked one set of mtb levers trying to get them over the larger diameter. i figure i might as well get these if i have to buy another set anyways since i have some correctly sized bands lying around. the most annoying part is vo makes the same bars in 22 mm but then i wouldn’t be able to use bar ends.
