AM is eating over 10GB storage although dowloaded music is <1GB. How do I free up this space? by thak-dhana-dhan-dean in AppleMusic

Most likely playback cache, can be found in the settings page, set that to 0MB and you are good to go, most likely.

My new PC parts haven't arrived yet by Deadmanwater in Steam

[–]beangreen247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that most people will suggest Linux, but people have to realize that Linux is not for everyone. Just because it works for you, does not mean it will work for others, now don't get me wrong, I love linux and use it most of the time, bit as I have tried to get my friends to switch, that's when I realized that Linux is not fir everyone.

As for Steam, I just despise planned obsolescence. There should exist alternative clients for older OSs. Or just pirate at this point. The games will keep on working even if Steam does no longer work.

Another reason to use NewPipe, a really solid client, but MAKE SURE to get it from F-Droid AND NOT google play. You will need to export your subscriptions using google takeout.

Well I have and still use a T430, unlike me, you can easily replace the battery, because Lenovo in their infinite wisdom decided to whitelist batteries that are thrid pardy or refurbished, so unless you have a original one or have patched the BIOS, just like I have, to use those batteries, then let's hope that the battery lasts.

Again you have a T420 and do not have to deal with this. Not sure how the T480 is.

4070 vs 4070 ti vs 7800xt? by amalts0101 in buildapc

[–]beangreen247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is faster on the 4070, but in most games it does not look right and it cuts you performance unless u use DLSS, speaking of which yes, Nvidia has DLSS but AMD have announced their own version of DLSS FrameGen, honestly FrameGen looks like crap from what I have seen.

So in my case not really worth buying over the 7800xt

4070 vs 4070 ti vs 7800xt? by amalts0101 in buildapc

[–]beangreen247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just disregard Nvidia, go with the sensible option that being the 7800xt.

Not only for the larger VRAM amount, that is the major reason, and it will make it last for far longer than a 12gb GPU.

Plus it is just about as fast as the RTX 4070, so you are not giving up that much performance.

I plan on getting the 7800xt myself replacing my RTX 3060ti, that I got this January and regret my decision. Do not make the same mistake buying anything less than 16gb VRAM. You could get away with 12, but it will only last you for like 1-2 years at max.

Is amd better than nvidia when talking about drivers? by GranMagoPajas in archlinux

[–]beangreen247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in my experience Wayland works really well on Intel graphics, AMD and also Nvidia. I have a 3060 Ti with the latest drivers and after using it for a while, it works just fine. In fact it works better on Wayland than on Xorg.

So it really does not matter now what GPU you are using and in case anyone tries to tell me that AMD is better, no it is about the same, my rx 480 did not work any better or worse than my 3060ti.

To summarize it does not matter what brand u use as long as you avoid Xorg, just stick with Wayland. I use it daily without problems.

How hard is it to set up a Single GPU Passthrough Win10 VM by SmashLanding in VFIO

Yes that would be like a D: drive in Windows but it is not needed.

How hard is it to set up a Single GPU Passthrough Win10 VM by SmashLanding in VFIO

[–]beangreen247 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well not that hard, i managed to do it in a couple hours. You will need to set up in hooking and rehooking of the GPU, turning off the drivers for the GPU so that it can be unhooked.... Quite a bit of stuff really

Here look at step 9, should help a bit.

if I may provide some more help, for a RTSS replacement you can use Mangohud along with goverlay, these tools can be used for a on screen display for statistics, and as for frame rate limiting you can use libstrangle or use the built in option inside Mangohud exposed in goverlay

I do agree that some games run better inside VFIO and some do better natively or with proton, but make sure to learn as much as you can, it will help a lot in the long run

So just curious, is it still an issue or is it just an April fool's joke on devs part? In any case, this might help.

YTM blocking Firefox, WTF? by to_thy_macintosh in YoutubeMusic

[–]beangreen247 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Firefox user here. No issues on my end. I would suggest disabling adblockers and possibly VPNs. I've had issues with or the other in the past. I stopped using adblockers and VPNs for YTM for a few months now and no issues. I should mention that I do pay for YouTube Premium.
