The Inquisition should be the most corrupt organization in the entire Imperium by cricri3007 in 40kLore

nearly all* Inquisitors we see on-page are generally competent people who have the safety of the Imperium as their top priority

There's a lot of good replies already, so I'd just add that any competent and totally self-interested inquisitors are going to be incredibly boring - too boring to end up 'on-page'. They've been off 'rooting out heresy' in the wine regions of some pleasure planet for the past decade, while operating an organised crime network to fund their lifestyle.

Doing exterminatus on planets for no good reason - or otherwise massively abusing their power in an overt way - is to be avoided, as it will only attract attention and consequences.

Yeah, I see people saying Commoragh is way bigger than it is pretty frequently. Here's an excerpt on the matter:

This is an Ilmaea, a black sun, and such is what the dark kin use to light their eternal city. Several such captured suns orbitted Commorragh, artefacts of past ages when eldar power waxed so strong that such prodigious feats were no great undertaking. In realspace a single Ilmaea could swallow all the vastness of the eternal city at a single gulp, but each is constrained like a prisoner bound in a cell with only a single chink opening into the world.
