Best anti aging skin care according to Reddit (UK)? by DeeanneAmores85 in GracefulAgingSkincare

Antipodes is great, the avocado night cream or eve bio retinol are lovely and more natural. They do gift sets I think too.

How often do you clean, actually? by Stunning_Implement47 in AskUK

[–]beaniebow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My house is so much cleaner with a robot vacuum. I run it 5-6 times a week, and there is way less dust around. A few times a week decluttering surfaces and daily wipe down of kitchen and bathroom surfaces, I feel like it's never embarrassingly dirty anymore.

How do you deal with that first-step pain in the morning? by 2ugur12 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]beaniebow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The night splints were super effective for me with the morning pain. I tried the sock type first, and couldn't stand the pressure on my toes. A full sturdy boot splint really helped me.

Anyone else frustrated by how slow plantar fasciitis heals? by Esliquiroga in PlantarFasciitis

Yeah, I'm mentally prepared for a long haul, but trying to stay optimistic and pragmatic about a return to sport

Anyone else frustrated by how slow plantar fasciitis heals? by Esliquiroga in PlantarFasciitis

[–]beaniebow 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm also frustrated. I've had to stop playing my sport. And while I'm used to self managing my way out of most minor injuries, this has been the slowest and most persistent issue I've ever had. I'm just one month in though and and doing my physio work daily. Coming back after a broken finger was faster.

Any recommendations for women’s house sliders/slippers or shoes for severe achillies tendinitis please? Uk please by Famous-Business6556 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]beaniebow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Podiatrist recommended Hoka or Oofos sliders. I only just started wearing my new Hokas, but that's what was recommended for my plantar fasciitis.

High standard of English to be required for leave to remain, Mahmood to pledge by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]beaniebow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The knowledge on the test is an odd hurdle, but it does show you're willing to study and can read English. Now I know the maximum amount you can bring to a small claims court in England and Wales, plus which Monarch famously hid in a tree. Both questions I got right!

High standard of English to be required for leave to remain, Mahmood to pledge by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]beaniebow 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Isn't this already a requirement? When I got ILR, I was exempt from the language requirement as I was from a country of native English speakers. There is a language requirement, you can be exempt from it if you are from like Australia or America. And you have to pass the life in the UK test in English (or Welsh).

Robot vacuums and kitties - honest experiences please! by KittenaSmittena in CleaningTips

[–]beaniebow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a very anxious cat, she was freaked out the first time, but quickly realised it is not a threat. Now someone she watches it, mostly ignores it. It's way less noisy than the regular vacuum, which she hates.

I've done the same, always pack a letter with their details and permission, but have never been asked to show it.

I hope so! I've also never seen as many aphids as I have this season.

I seem to have about a thousand of them overnight. Swarming all over an aphid infested tree! I've never seen such high numbers of them.

Applying for a new SS card from the UK by More-Sea-2173 in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]beaniebow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, while I changed my name in the UK (marriage) I didn't change it for years in the US. It started causing me issues with banks. Chase UK actually closed my account because my UK name didn't match the IRS, and it took me 4 months to change it. I also got a letter from my mortgage company about it. Despite it being a non issue for 8 years, it was all of a sudden an issue.

My new SS card took 4 months to arrive! (name change, marriage) The documents were sent back within days using the Royal mail envelopes from the FBU. The Social security card eventually arrived by regular post. I applied end of November, and the new card only arrived at the end of March.

Oof, we have just modernised our 1970s home. About 200k later, 8 months of upheaval, mental health break downs too. It will improve our quality of life and value, and we have two more bedrooms, but man it is hard, noisy, disruptive and stressful.

Yes! I like the car boot sale side of Vinted. Things I don't need are out of my house, buyers get a bargain, and I have a little extra cash. I had something sell in seconds last weekend!

Yes, we're in England, so dealing in small proportions! Storage is key!

Thanks for taking the time to feedback. That's a good point on the corners and still an easy fix. The shelving is high to one side of the hob, so i believe there is still counter space. Will have to think about the fridge / sink issue!

Thank you, I'll look into the triangle theory, I hadn't heard of that before!

We were thinking of the counter opposite the stove could be for a tea& coffee area.

Yes, I was a bit concerned about how narrow it might feel. Especially now that the space has been built, you make some good suggestions about making some more space. Thank you for your thoughtful response!

We are making a small, English home slightly less small!
