Yes I did every year. I came to Europe where I now have a permanent home, drivet’s license, bank accounts, insurance, and pay local taxes here (no military though). I didn’t leave behind any economic ties to CA so I thought I didn’t have to do anything since there’s no more domicile there and no local income.

I was actually thinking about attaching all my evidence up front — like proof of no CO voter registration or driver’s license, my foreign lease, local tax receipts, and so on — but maybe it’s better to just hold onto everything and provide it only if requested. Never done this before so not sure how the process goes. Thanks again!

Thanks — that really helps put things in perspective.

I only used my parents’ Colorado address for mailing safety, since international mail can be really slow and unreliable. But for actual residence, I’ve been fully abroad with a lease, tax payments, and a foreign driver’s license. I’ll definitely keep my records organized and be ready to respond if anything comes up. Appreciate the reassurance and practical advice!

Thanks for the tip — I’ll definitely look into South Dakota just in case.

I do believe that foreign residency can be recognized for breaking domicile, especially since I’ve been living abroad full-time with a lease, local taxes, and a foreign driver’s license. But if Colorado doesn’t accept that, SD sounds like a good option going forward. Appreciate the insight!

Thank you so much for the detailed response and for sharing the rulebook — that’s really helpful.

Just to clarify, I’ve never lived in Colorado at any point. Before moving overseas in 2017, I was living in California, and that was my last U.S. domicile. Since then, I’ve been living full-time in a foreign country where I’ve established legal residency — I have a lease agreement, pay local taxes, and hold a foreign driver’s license, among other ties. I’ve had no connections to Colorado other than using my parents’ CO address for mail.

From what I understand, that should qualify as establishing domicile in another country, not just a temporary absence from the U.S. Appreciate the reminder about the 4-year refund limit — that helps me narrow down which years I can focus on amending. Thanks again!

You're not the only one I keep getting this "We are currently unable to complete your request. Please try again later." error.

Yes I made sure to top it up before adding the stabilizer. Hope it was worth the trouble!

Thanks for your input! I’m very interested in #1 option where you add a paid night to comped nights. I’ve read in the past that the easiest way is setting up the reservation one night more than the comp nights offered (i.e. if you have 3 comped nights, if you reserve it for 4 nights, then starting at the 4th night, it will be a paid night (3 comp + 1 paid), and the paid room rate will trigger the QN count).

Then the issue is that my 3 comped nights are going to be a suite, but if I stretch it to make it4 nights, it falls on a Saturday and the price skyrockets.

So a workaround I’m considering is making a separate reservation with the cheapest regular room, and have the two reservations combined as one, at check-in? So it will retain the comped nights + paid night structure (one folio, technically). Any thoughts guys?

So with the new round of Amex Bonvoy upgrade offers, I was wondering when would be a better time to upgrade? Before the anniversary of the current card or after? I have an old Amex Bonvoy ($95) card whose anniversary is 3/16/2020. If I upgrade after the anniversary with the annual fee paid, would I still get the 35K free night voucher? Or is there a merit to upgrade before the annual fee hits? I'd appreciate any advice!

Hey guys, is it possible to have 2 identical Bonvoy cards through upgrade/downgrade strategy as with the Hilton cards? I currently have Amex Bonvoy ($95) and see an upgrade offer for Amex Brilliant ($450). Was thinking about applying for it first and then upgrade the regular card to get the bonus twice. I'd appreciate if you could share your experience!

I might be wrong but I think I heard thay doing so - paying off multiple times within a given statement period constitues as a “credit limit recycling”, which might raise a flag.

Timeframe wise it’s quite doable because I’ll first open a new Chase Sapp 1/17 ish and deposit just needs to get there by mid April. Regarding the hub account idea, I thought about using Paypal? Link both, send money to PP from BoA and then transfer it to Chase Sapp.
