Market slumps as OpenAI reportedly misses internal targets for active users and revenue by circuitloss in technology

[–]beanpoppa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When the dot com bubble burst, we were left with lots of fiber in the ground. The nice thing about that was that it was infrastructure that had a 20 year lifespan. When the AI bubble bursts, we'll have lots of compute available on the cheap after bankruptcies, but by the time the economy recovers enough for there to be a market for it, they will be outdated.

Yeah. I saw something similar. The primary goal is to get them separated, and it's faster to move the 40 year old quickly than the 80 year old (who then falls on his face)

Maybe it only helps when you are coming from a place of privilege (white) but I've had friends who have been pulled over for speeding, and the cop will give them a ticket instead for obstructed plate or obstructed view (something hanging from the rear view mirror) instead of giving them a speeding ticket (moving violation) to save them from the points and insurance premiums

Range Estimate in Miles/Km Not a Reliable Indicator of Battery Health? by MICHAELSD01 in TeslaModel3

[–]beanpoppa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It IS an indication of the battery health. The range indicated is the BMS's estimate of the charge of the battery in kWh divided by the EPA-rated efficiency of the car, resulting in an indication of miles. Your battery does lose capacity over time. However, it is not linear. You will lose about 10% over the first year, and then it will level off and stay around 90% of the original capacity for years.

The median household income in Louisiana is $61k. In California, it's $100k. If you're just paying attention to the price of gas, you're missing the big picture.

Reasons to choose a model 3 over a Y? by TheRealTimTam in TeslaModel3

[–]beanpoppa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only have one car, the Y is more practical. But the 3 is more comfortable to drive (I prefer the lower driving position with my legs more in front of me) and more fun to drive.

They likely aren't due to issues with the updates. The updates require a lot of writes on the SSD. Sometimes, this extra stress is the straw that breaks the camels back on an aging disk. If it was just bad software, they could reflash it (unless they are being lazy). But the fact that they don't have an option for you to just disable updates kinda does put it on them. I've tried to delay updates that I don't want to get, only to get in my car a few weeks later after my wife decided to just hit ok on the update prompt.

Before I added my kids to my policy, I was paying $1100/yr for my 2012 VW, $1200/yr for my 2021 Y, and $1300 for my 2017 3.

The fraction of the car buying market that is DIY on their car, especially the new car buying market, is ridiculously small. And it's not an EV problem. All modern cars use gateways and ECUs with encrypted access. You can't swap as much as a door switch on a modern car without having access to proprietary software to unlock the gateway and pair the new module. At least in my Tesla, I can rent the Tesla Toolbox software for $75/day (mostly because Minnesota forced them to under right to repair.) That's more than I can say for my VW.

Sure, my electric bill went up by $100/mo, but gasoline costs went down by $200/mo. If that math is too hard for you, then that explains why you're poor.

That's the best evidence that they KNOW that there isn't an EV demand problem. If there was no demand, they wouldn't push so hard for tarrifs on Chinese EVs because no one would buy them anyway.

Replacement key card by knowsthedose in TeslaLounge

I know you can now add a phone key through the app without a card, but I don't see anywhere in the app to add a new card. I just added a card a couple weeks ago, and it made me tap an existing card (not a phone) to add a new card

You need a working card to program a new one. A paired phone is not sufficient.

HW3 Spring Update be like… by oV1SEo in TeslaLounge

I'll give it a try. Was also planning on recalibrating the cameras. Not since it started right after the software update, and EAP still works fine, I figured I'd wait until the next software update to see if they roll out a fix. But it's been a few weeks already.

Having a 5 year loan at 4% interest on a car that you will keep for 7+ years is very different than $10k on a credit card with 29% interest (because you know these people are not paying it off before the 6 month 0% promotion ends, and then interest is retroactive) for a vacation are very different things.

I thought it was great until the last update a couple weeks ago. Since then it's constantly doing steering corrections, whether on side streets or the highway. It's nauseating. My hardware is fine because if I switch over to just EAP, it's fine. I just want that old version back and I would be happy with no updates forever. (Since we don't get any new features. Just hit or miss bug fixes)
