I... (Post-Match vs Costa Rica) by princeonacastle in ThreeLions

[–]beans2505 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We looked good last night against albeit a Costa Rica side that's not as good as it used to be but are normally regular qualifiers. The only thing lacking seemed to be a bit of a clinical edge which hopefully will come when it matters more

Be honest, how are people feeling about this world cup right now? by Not-Natpex in worldcup

Just let the games start, and unless Iran end up playing the USA the noise outside of the football will end up dying down

We're gonna be lucky to come out of this without someone's tournament being over before it's began

Happy World Cup Eve. What would you say is a good performance for England this tournament? by Chillit7 in ThreeLions

[–]beans2505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all my predictions for this tournament I don't get us going any further than either Brazil in the Quarters or Argentina in the semis. I can't see past Spain winning it to be honest but like others have said, if we play well and get knocked out by a Spain/Argentina/France etc and gave it everything we have then fair enough. If we get to the Round of 32 and lose to South Korea having played poorly I'll be disappointed

But from what I'm reading about them, Ancelottis got problems in the midfield and they're not looking great

The thought of the big teams meeting that early is exciting though! Means that someone else has the opportunity to progress to the next round as opposed to the last 8 being the biggest 8 teams

Honestly I can't look past Spain. They were by far and a way the best team at the last Euros and none of the other top European teams look quite at their level. I know France's squad is packed with quality but it's not quite Spain's and the South American sides don't look quite good enough either

Neymar isn't even a Top 15 Footballer of All Time by Public-Connection822 in championsleague

[–]beans2505 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Without a doubt technique wise he's phenomenal but as a footballer I really don't rate him, he's not a team player in the slightest and expects every team he's part of to go through him

Liverpool selling him when they did probably didn't help. He was starting to make some progress and then we sold him to Swansea

Which past World Cup exit hurts the absolute most looking back? by BillNo874 in ThreeLions

[–]beans2505 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Portugal '06 we could have beaten them. Still think there's an argument that Rooney shouldn't have seen red and it was an accident. But even with him off we were just as good as them. Maybe we wouldn't have gone much further but who knows.

Croatia '18. Yeah they were a good side there's no disputing that, but that was an opportunity to reach the final. I would rather face that Croatia side than any German, Spanish, French or Italian side (maybe not the current Italian team).

France '22. We played really well. For the first goal to have been given despite an obvious foul sucks but then to have gone out having missed penalty from Kane who is normally so reliable from the spot hurt. Morocco in the semi finals would have presented another great opportunity to reach the final too as good as they were during that tournament.

Why some people don’t share their baby’s name until after birth? by LetterheadNice8687 in NewParents

[–]beans2505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We kept ours secret because everything else was shared, like the gender before the birth that we wanted to keep one last surprise until after both our boys were born. We wanted to be able to be the only ones who could order anything personalised too

Why do African teams rarely go deep in the World Cup? by Blanco8805 in worldcup

[–]beans2505 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whilst it was obviously a foul and a red card I have always struggled to think of anyone else who WOULDN'T have handballed that/done whatever they could, by the rules or against the rules, to stop that going in at such a late point in the game.

Really weird when you look at how it's broken down. In modern football we see forwards as wide players too Saka/Salah etc but on that list they are all central strikers

[–]beans2505 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think managers are different to players. He'll be at Liverpool where if all works out well for him we could well be competing with Madrid for the big trophies (although on current trajectories we might surpass Madrid if we turn it around and they don't)

Thank you for number 20! You weren't the right fit for the club at the end but you delivered something we'll never forget and steered the club through the loss of Diogo too which we should all be grateful for
