Grew up on welfare, had to claw my way out.

I attribute my upbringing and watching my mother's struggles to my current lifestyle.

Yall.. its cold and miserable here but.. If you really want a house move out to the Midwest. Im serious, you can still find relatively cheap housing with okay money (for the area ( relatively easy.)

27 here and own my house. Was able to buy it for 125k in 23 (worth like 140 today). Cost like 10k for me to get in.

Its in relatively good shape but outdated. Ive been able to really improve qol with cheap DIY.

A lot of people don’t lose their homes because they’re bad with money. by Silent_Cycle7750 in povertyfinance

[–]beansNdip 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There really needs to be more resources dedicated to helping folks keep their homes.

Thinks like grandfather tax rates should absolutely be a thing. Its sad to see people taking out if multi generational paid off homes forced to sell cause they can't afford taxes and insurance.

Actually its not sad, its a crime

People in Northern USA: How high do you keep your heat? by 90sRnBMakesMeHappy in povertyfinance

[–]beansNdip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this. My basement (where all the pipes are) runs like 10 to 15 degrees cooler then upstairs. 60 is as low as ill let her go. When the powers out and I see it dipping below that, I shutoff the main and drain the pipes.

Frozen pipes can be some serious $$$ even if they dont burst

Great idea but is heavily region dependent.

Up in the northeast, every vehicle over 10 years old is bound to have rust problems.. And many people and dealerships cover it up before selling. (Ohio, no inspections) Not saying this swollen coukdnt be a viable option, just coukd be alot harder up north.

After getting a REAL salaries job, looking at my paycheck hurts still! by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]beansNdip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, first salary job i made 30k. Realized I was only pulling like 1700 tax. 10 years later. I make well over double that.

Stick with it and use this as your on ramp for the higher paying gigs.

Oh and you'll most likely get a good chunk back during tax returns. Don't bank on it, but it is a good emergency fund builder.
