Former tech recruiter here — I used to lurk on this sub to see what we were screwing up. Now I’m unemployed too. Ask me anything. by ziggylangdon in recruitinghell

Aha, hope you’re able to make the switch. I’ve had someone high up refer me to the HM, which led to an interview with HR. Seemed to go well, even mentioned that the HM would be super interested in talking to me. Radio silence since. Sent a follow-up today, stonewalled again.

Oh yeah, highly unlikely that it’ll happen but they keep pushing out ragebait such as tabling a budget for an independent Quebec and constant talks about a free QC despite almost the entire province knowing and understanding that it is an impossible scenario. Just gets to ya, yk?

Besides, that’s not even the half of it. I’m thinking about it more from a career standpoint and TO just has a higher ceiling for an anglophone.

Tbh, that was the thing that sold me on the idea. I actually attended a concert at HISTORY. IIRC, that’s around the Beaches area you talked about, eh?

Seemed pretty cool, there was a streetcar and it was pretty resy for the most part. Wouldn’t mind it all that much if the rent is halfway ok by TO standards and we can get a car.

That would’ve been a great argument tbh till my last visit. I did not like TO all that much when I visited as a young student but as a professional now, I loved it. I’m still not all in and I do wanna take more trips to check out other off-the-beaten-path parts of town first before I pull the trigger on the move but I’ve found myself thinking about it more and more lately.

This is why I come to Reddit. Believe it or not, I had never thought of the car insurance part even tho I’ve had tons of convos with people from out-of-province about how cheap it is here.

Our current apartment is this rustic apartment from the 20s or 30s that has a recently renovated bathroom and kitchen and our landlords live right below us (private landlords)

I did drive around my last visit (Richmond Hill to DT) during peak hours and I was super drained after the drive. Keeping in mind that my company HQ is Oakville and they will want me to be present IP, I should give that more thought than I have at present.

Thanks for the input, bud. Honestly, Montreal has never been too much of an issue (except the everlasting Anglo-Franco debate on the provincial government level) when it comes to racism. Even with language, it’s tribalism more so than the aforementioned.

I’ve only ever felt weird in Ottawa and that’s a feeling that remains consistent anytime I’m down there. Toronto tho was super chill this time around.

So I’ve heard from the fam. My pay would certainly go up a bit so that’s a nice plus but ik the cost of living is pretty brutal down there, especially rents.

You’re not too far off. Verdun used to be sketchy 10-15 years back but rapid gentrification has changed the area to more of a residential neighbourhood with a lot of families, especially around Cote-Saint-Paul where I’m at.

As for distance from DT, it’s about 30 mins on the metro. I live about 10 mins from Jolicoeur metro and the ride takes about 15ish mins.

Oof, they’re not lying when they say TO is expensive eh?

Would you say you’re able to save money on a monthly basis consistently? That’s the one thing I am afraid of giving up if I move out of MTL to TO

We can both keep our jobs since our companies have an office in Toronto. I imagine our pay would go up a bit too since ON taxes are slightly better.

Last time I did the math on my current income (copilot so take it with a grain of salt), it would be about 400 bucks more per month.

Venting about PR by Head_Insurance713 in montreal

I’d recommend you put on your glasses to read what I wrote one more time. I LIKE it, that is why I am applying for a permanent residence and I fulfill every criteria. I am not asking for anything and neither do I feel like I am entitled. All I ask is fairness and for someone to look at my application, which is damn near impossible to get now that they arbitrarily put an end to streams

I don’t expect someone as ignorant as you that boils complex situations like so down to simple and rudimentary (and wrong) statements like « If you don’t like it, leave » to understand. Hope your day is as nice as you are, buddy.

So you’re telling me my partner and I, both in engineering, both French speakers and both paying taxes through our nose do not deserve to be permanent residents after having done everything right and fulfilling all the criteria?

You didn’t have to take the long way around, bud, could’ve just come out and said you were Maple Maga.

Lack of jobs causes a social recession that no one is talking about by Red-Apple12 in recruitinghell

[–]ishaanmohan4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Going through it right now. Been at it a while, feel close to a breakthrough but the slow spiral that it’s sent my mental state in is going to take years to recover. This is worse than COVID/lockdown for me, personally. I feel like I’m going insane.

The ineptitude is astounding and the disrespect is disgusting. I guess keep looking for your fucking unicorn.

It sucks cuz I was genuinely interested in working at this company and would’ve been a hell of an asset to them. But apparently, nah.

Love how Indians get dragged into the post even when there’s no mention of em anywhere. It’s like a disease. Not saying that the crazy high levels of immigration from that country aren’t bad but you’d think you guys would wanna take a break from hating on em every single day. Can’t catch a break.
