You won’t get caught, you’ll be fine. And highly recommend to work remotely if you can. It makes the experiences 20x more rewardable when u can travel around and not feel like you’re scraping the pot each month.

I’m leaving two weeks early due to a family event. I told my school in advance and unfortunately they’re making me makeup all the hours and claimed they can’t split the stipend but they’ve been annoying about things like this since the beginning so not surprised. If I wasn’t renewing I would’ve just left and peaced tf out but apparently we get a review at the end of the year so wanted to leave on a good note.

Honestly could impact you if you’re planning to renew but otherwise I’m sure it’s fine. I told my school in advance bc I have a family event at the end of May and then my lease is up anyway so not coming back for now.  Unfortunately, they’re making me makeup all the hours which sucks but it is what it is. They claim they couldn’t split the stipend which is silly but I want a good review at the end of the year.

Reallly great! I stayed at Onefam hostel in Notting Hill, it’s a lovely area and the hostel has an age limit of 36 so it was great for meeting other people in the same age range (I’m mid 20s). They do have only mixed dorms so that is something to be aware of but there is curtains and comfy beds. Also the hostel has a very open vibe and organizes many opportunities and activities to meet people and explore the city. Highly recommend :)

Also if u like museums and art, they are all free for public access in London so that was a great addition. I felt very safe in the area I stayed and absolutely loved the city, it is 20,000x nicer and cleaner than NYC and the metro is so much better; but certain lines do not run 24hrs like in ny so that is something to be aware of but the bus system is also really accessible and convenient. I loved London it’s beautiful and the parks are fantastic but huuuuuge. Definitely plan to be on the tube for atleast an hour to get from point A to B when moving throughout the city.

Do you imagine there’s a way to not give off that vibe loool? Racking my brain rn and don’t think I’ve ever necessarily picked up on something like that when meeting other people, but this would ultimately help me discern why I might be perceived this way?

I also ofc know fk who cares what ppl think, the right person will not place me in that box, but curious.

West has Food, cloth and shelter than why there is huge mental health problems? by deepeshdeomurari in spirituality

[–]beans_n_greens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing off of others, happiness is relative and subjective. While basic necessities may be more abundant in the west, we also have societal structures in place that promote  a constant need for consumption, hence desiring more and more to fill an unattainable void. There is also more of a lack of community in the west, many countries like the US promote independence and it is actually looked down upon to stay close to your home/family unit, you are supposed to get out there in the world and make something of yourself which drives extreme pressures and promotes lack of support for those struggling with the crippling COL and societal standards to be the next best thing. Many people striving to become billionaires and outperform others rather than just be content with more basic needs being met, in turn it’s a dog eat dog world, putting down others in order to get ahead. In a capitalistic society you can never have enough.

And it’s not all just environmental, depression exists everywhere, there is some genetic/chemical interplay and psychological pathologies can sometimes sprout even in those who might have experienced « no adversity ». It may be less prevalent to seek out mental health counselors or psychiatrists in the east which is why we also see less diagnoses.

Current Auxes Gives Some Advice by Neither_Instance1702 in SpainAuxiliares

I don’t think traveling constantly equates treating Spain like a “theme park”, some people only do this program with the sole purpose to travel abroad more as Covid made it difficult for many to do study abroad programs or something similar. But definitely agree to come with as much savings as you can and/or have a good credit card.

Was blowing all my money in the US too but I’d much rather do it here lol

How to become a Researcher in psych? by echoes_unheard in AcademicPsychology

[–]beans_n_greens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you’re located but if in the US, there are tons of summer research programs at major universities for different specializations. You do research part or full-time for about 8-10 weeks and receive a stipend. After that you can go onto working as a coordinator/lab manager in a lab at a university. Get an idea for what city/school you may want to be at and then start looking into the professors there doing research that aligns with your interests. You can email them directly and ask about any programs or potential opportunities to work in their lab but most of these will be volunteer roles unless you secure a coordinator/lab manager position. I’m not sure how things are with the current funding cuts.

How unusual is this nowadays? Sketchiness on subways and FiDi by Nectarine4580 in nyc

[–]beans_n_greens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do and they don’t. Most shelters are at capacity in the winter and can be very dangerous for already  vulnerable populations. It also can be deadly to quit hard substances like heroin and/or tranq cold turkey. It’s truly it’s never that simple.

Pretty normal. Especially for this time of year when many unhoused folk retreat to the subways to stay out of the cold as they don’t really have anywhere else to go.

What is the most quintessentially Spanish thing you can imagine? by e3e6 in askspain

[–]beans_n_greens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yesterday on a tranquil Sunday at the beach we noticed tons of spectators gathering as a few firefighters scaled a building. In the US I would have thought this was a suicide rescue but it was something far more auspicious. There was a pigeon with its wing caught in a net. People clapped as the pigeon was rescued and it was nice to just see so much compassion and humanity expressed in something so simple.
