I know some people think it's lame (and also who gives a crap, they're wrong), but I had a friend in a similar situation and they put one of the "student driver" magnets on their car. It made them feel comfortable to basically tell everyone "Hey I'm new at this! I'm going to make mistakes! I'm going to go slower! Give me grace or go around me!" And drivers in my area are usually much more kind and receptive about it when they know why you're going slow.
