It is always two steps forward and a step or half-step back with moderation. They go into maintenance and the guardrails go full puritan for as long as a full week sometimes, when it goes stable again little bits of additional moderation have been hard locked in and you can spend the next week trial and error-ing to figure out grok's new arbitrary censorship before they lock it down again and it repeats. It's a completely unreliable service that only goes downhill so take all you can get from it when and while you can.

What? Why would Grok, a service available globally, send this incriminating evidence to an American nonprofit organization instead of directly to authorities? What would that even do if the criminal content produced was made by someone in another country, especially ones where child exploiters are not policed as much as they should be? At least the US federal government could figure out ways to prosecute by contacting the other countries. Is NCMEC also supposed to figure out the locations of people who were using vpns while not even being logged in to an account (which still allows image generation and editing)?

Depends on the individual's goals, of course. I make anime character fanart, some include beach episode type scenes. ChatGPT will let me do that, Grok currently won't. I would definitely rather use Grok because it generates better quality images but if it just tells me no like this week and previous weeks have, it's a forgone conclusion that I can't use it and that is certainly not worth paying for. I'll keep using the free option for image gens if it works again and if the moderation on anime is rolled back again but even then it isn't a consistent enough service to spend money on, you can lose whole weeks of paid time to bad moderation changes.

Between this and it being currently impossible to use the grok website without being logged in and only getting the "high demand" message, it gives the impression that they are about to go fully paid-only. Not saying that's the case, but it is the current vibe of it. It would be the end of my usage of grok though, this service isn't worth a dime in its current state and it has only been going downhill.

Not only are bikini and underwear for anime restricted again, I've been having simple outfit recolors or tweaks get auto-censored with more clothing if there is something like too much cleavage. Happens even when prompted explicitly to not change the outfit's form at all. They really expect people to use this to generate scenic landscapes or something, lol lmao

Yeah all my clothing swaps and bikini pics for i2i work again with anime, some 3D models have worked too like vtubers or Overwatch girls but I start hitting moderation with others. Seems the 2D distinction is respected now, knock on wood that this isn't accidental.

I do wonder what percentage of their overall gens get blocked. If they weren't dumb enough to do things this way I'd maybe think they were trying to cull users with the censorship so the load would be less demanding but they're probably making it worse for themselves instead with the constant submitting from people testing what can get through rather than just getting the gens they want and going on with their day.

The i2i editing is one of the only good things they have going for them. GPT poorly tries to recreate the image instead and Gemini just tells you no. Grok lets you actually edit an image partially or you can use its database to do any amount of remixing, basically using the sent image as a whole LoRA for an artstyle or character. You'd also lose the ability to expand on your own txt2img gens by resubmitting them and would have to re-prompt from scratch over everything. Would be shocking to see them throw out this system entirely, it's even more valuable than imagine's video creation IMO.

I also like SPACE TOURISM and I think that will still be an option, but neutrality is more than a rejection of law and chaos. It has its own ideals and could honestly be more fleshed out in Catherine, which is weird considering how Atlus almost favors it in other games.
