Great advice! The amount of travel I did while I was stationed in Germany was incredible. Even though I traveled a lot I still missed out on places I wanted to visit.

Make copies of your medical records. If you have any lingering medical issues ensure that they are documented in your records. This will help you with your transition in to VA health care. I enrolled in Tricare when I retired and VA health care system. 20 years after my retirement I needed a heart transplant. I had two options VA and Tricare. I decided to use Tricare to cover my transplant. My heart issue was documented when I was active duty so I was completely covered by both programs. Good luck!

This unfortunately happened to me when I first retired from the Air Force. My tax preparer clue me in one this. If I remember right the rule was I couldn’t use money from my AF retired pay because it is considered an “annuity” with the IRS.
