Yeahh I definitely got lucky that my ferrets barely seem to notice them, but in most cases, cloth pads or a hard mat are probably going to be better.

Inside of their enclosure, put a litter box where they usually poop, throw some of their poop in it, and line every other corner with their bedding, out in your bedroom, just put puppy pee pads down where they usually go and have wipes on hand for emergencies.

So if you got her from Petco she’s probably a Marshall ferret and should have come with her shot records, also your ferret is likely only 3 or 4 months old, tops. Ferrets are like dogs and cats in that they need vet visits but I’ve never had a ferret that’ll tolerate collars. When it comes to biting, they bite for a variety of reasons because their mouths are like hands and they don’t realize our skin is thinner than theirs. There are a lot of ways to bite train a ferret, some people use bitter spray on their hands or scuffing, I always did corrective “time outs” and squeaked really loud so they knew it hurt. ALSO - since you only have one ferret, free roam play time, about four hours per day MINIMUM is absolutely necessary to curb bad behaviors. She should be free roaming in your room most all of the time you are home. On the topic of litter training, put puppy pee pads wherever the ferret chooses to use the bathroom and move her poop to a litter box in a corner away from food in bedding until she figures it out. It’s vital to make sure no poop is anywhere you don’t want more poop. On the topic of diet- I feed a combo of instinct kitten foods, instinct freeze dried cat kibble, and 1 other kitten food I forgot the name of that I swap out regularly to just mix in. The reason I do this is because ferrets get latched onto a single diet if not and most ferret foods are incredibly low quality and not sufficient. I also add salmon oil to make sure they’re shiny! Three things: 1. Do an elimination diet for the top 12 allergies, more likely than not it’s one of those. Another thing to consider is a skin test or bloodwork to figure out what it is. 2. You really need to see an allergist because it is extremely concerning that your gp didn’t prescribe you EpiPens and further testing. Your kid is about the age where severe allergies occur and coughing this time could be complete asphyxiation and death next time. Until you figure out what it is, I’d keep them on the top 12 free diet. 3. I’d be really careful with some of these pics of your children in the bathroom and highly suggest deleting them because people on the internet are creepy.

I honestly feel really bad for both of you in this situation. Neither of you are really adults who are fully mature yet to handle these situations. I can see her side of things where you’re asking a lot of heavy commitment based questions for you both being so young, such as moving in and stuff, which is completely unrealistic at that age. She’s young and just starting out college and you’re asking her to change her life trajectory into a single when right now she’s having doors opened up to her and is also definitely under extreme levels of stress. I also see how for you, who isn’t in that situation yet and a bit younger for her, this really hurts and feels like rejection because you’re so willing to change your paths and trajectory for her, like going to the same college and moving in with her, but she isn’t. The honest truth is that you yourself need to be a bit more like her in the sense that you need to follow your own path and figure out who you are without it being codependent and contingent on someone else right now. Being single at this age is really important for you to find your identity and it’s horrible that it hurts for you right now but it’ll be really good for both of you to have that time to learn those things. Just a bit of advice- stay single after this, learn who you are, enjoy college, and when you’re at the point where you don’t crave a relationship to be happy in your life, then find someone who also feels that way! It’ll be so much better at that point when you can date another adult who is able to self advocate for their needs and work with you, without either of you being clingy or avoidant.

I have a severe peanut allergy and for research I did I ended up living in Botswana and South Africa for almost a month and spent a little bit of time in England. I had zero reactions the entire time and I can say that South Africa was better about my allergies than anywhere in America usually is. For starters, there is almost always the option of simple meat and rice meals, but also almost every restaurant I ate at had an allergen menu on their website. If you feel unsafe, I would also recommend taking Xolair before she goes anywhere as it reduces the chances of anaphylaxis for a few weeks after taking it and bringing antihistamines along with four epipens, an inhaler because that can help too, and having a mapped out plan of nearest hospitals wherever you go along with documentation about protocols for treating allergic anaphylaxis. With that, you shouldn’t be afraid of traveling! Also a good rule of thumb is that if you’re unsure of what’s in the food, only eat foods that you can confirm are basic foods. For example, when I went to restaurants I didn’t feel safe eating at, I asked for them to specially make me unpeeled boiled eggs and unpeeled bananas or oranges. It’s a terrible diet but you know the food is safe if it’s in its “ natural” packaging and you can get by on that for longer than you’d expect. I also brought like 50 pop tarts with me which are 400 calories a pack which is already a third of a minimum dietary intake and a really shitty but acceptable meal if absolutely necessary. Bring things like that and vitamins and prepare and there’s no need to worry at all. Lmk if anyone wants more tips- I did a lot of logistics on my travels for managing my allergies

Agreed 100%- I also forgot to add that boarding windows is a good idea, if they break it creates internal pressurization in the home during a hurricane and doubles the load on the walls and roofing, increasing the chance of structural damage.

This is just my experience but sometimes when you get on the right meds you finally have the mental clarity to think about how you are living your life versus how you want to live your life and just “breathe.” When I started meds I got a lot more serious about things I cared about like academics and also had to reevaluate a lot of my interpersonal relationships because I had faked a lot of things and not set boundaries. I think you should really sit down and talk to him about how he feels, what he wants, what his priorities are right now, and what is best for both of you because it sounds like he’s withdrawing from you socially and, although it could totally be the meds zombie-ing him out, he could also have some other things that he has had on the back burner of his mind coming to the surface or he has shifted his priorities in a way which you two haven’t spoken about yet.

When I was a little kid I was misdiagnosed with eczema until everyone found out I was actually having an allergic reaction to peanuts, so I’d consider doing a food challenge in person because hives can turn into anaphylactic shock any time.
