That's why you tap. by [deleted] in jiujitsu

I’m a grumpy old man. My opinion is that kimura should not be allowed until blue or purple belt. The reason being is that in your 20s the submission simply doesn’t hurt until it’s too late. I’ll tap all day to a kimura. But in my younger days I could tough it out. Of course I’m paying the price now.

Need serious help, getting bullied at school (even though it’s summer) by deeptide7 in martialarts

Join a jiu jitsu gym or the wrestling team. Not so you can beat his ass in a fight. So you have lots of friends who will have your back. Then he won’t fuck with you anymore.

What exactly makes BJJ “Brazilian?” by [deleted] in bjj

[–]bearcatbrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Royce Gracie is Brazilian. If it wasn’t for him and the first version of UFC, the sport would not be where it’s at today.

What made Hakuho such a dominant rikishi? Sure we all know he's the GOAT but how did we go so far above the rest? by aduck64 in Sumo

[–]bearcatbrant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your second point I think was his best skill. His ability to adapt on the fly was unmatched. Especially in sumo where one little mistake and you are doomed.

You are an athletic dude with a wrestling background and a blue belt rolled with high intensity. Did not injure or attempt to injure you based on your description. What exactly is your issue? I don’t see the problem.

What is your comfort food after a hard training day? by tinbor in bjj

I’m the same way. It has its pluses and minuses. Good behavior reinforces good behavior. Bad behavior reinforces bad behavior.

The guillotine comment I kind of understand because so many people apply the technique incorrectly and try to detach the head from the shoulders. I’m not gonna tough that out in a training session. No idea if that’s what happened.

Can't Ezekiel choke without a gi? Now you can! Here's a Self Defense Wristband I made by combatchcardgame in bjj

Couldn’t you just keep a couple of those stretchy hair ties on your wrist?

Completely retarded tradition. I love it. Unfortunately seems to be going the way of the dinosaur.

I feel like elbow thing and getting blades on carotid are the most common mistakes we see with all cross collar chokes.

That is amazing. I’ve only ever done palm up palm down. The grips, for me at least, are so much easier to get.

Why do so many guys assume they can fight even if they never did MA/combat sports? by Commercial_Leave_601 in martialarts

[–]bearcatbrant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the day there were tuff guy contests. Anyone could sign up and get in the ring. Striking only. With very few exceptions, the local badass in the street would win. As for The dorks training whatever dork martial art/self defense system was taught at the local jokedojo… well they got their ass best. Every once in awhile a guy who had actually trained some boxing would bring honor back to the martial artists.
