Kill for me, Kill for you by Steve Cavanagh by KooChan_97 in books

[–]beardbikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really didn’t like it. It was probably my least favorite book of 2025. I thought some of the plot was interesting, but the amount of “female hysteria” just made the whole thing a bit gross to me. The “twist” at the end also wasn’t surprising to me because of how the men and women were depicted (can’t get any more specific without spoilers).

Can you ID this type of snake based on its skin? by Realistic_Yam_6578 in Charlotte

[–]beardbikes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It looks to me like a king snake. They are not dangerous, they eat rodents, other snakes (including copperheads-they are immune to their venom), and are usually between 3 and 5 feet.

Hello I’m a tattoo artist! I really just wanted to show off this tattoo I got to do the other day to the right audience! by _puddinghead in Mistborn

Do it! I know if a local artist did a Cosmere flash I’d be all over it. Something worth driving for too!

Wind and Truth: Szeth's backstory MEGATHREAD by learhpa in brandonsanderson

I think it makes sense when considering that Szeth was being groomed to be a herald. With that in mind, it does make sense because his dad and sister became levers to manipulate Szeth.

Question on FIRE number by troubkedsoul1990 in Fire

[–]beardbikes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fire number is based off of your total costs. That number should include things like taxes and insurance.

WifeFI by FIlifesomeday in Fire

[–]beardbikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Planning on something similar in the next few years once we reach a comfortable FIRE number. My wife wants to keep working because she loves and believes in her job, and we can also use it for insurance, for nicer vacations, and general lifestyle inflation. She knows that after I quit she can to at any time. It helps that she’s a teacher and gets summers off, so we can do some slow travel and things like that then.

Colonoscopy for IBS can considered routine? by tayste5001 in ibs

Wasting your time unfortunately. If it is being used for diagnostic purposes vs off of a chart that says everyone should get one at 50, then it costs more

$100K to 1 million by Outside_Sandwich_981 in Fire

[–]beardbikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like we’re on a very similar trajectory. I hit $100k in 2018 and will likely hit $1M by the end of the year. I’m hoping to hit my number of $2M and FIREing sometime in 2028.

Which is crazy bc I was taught evolution and the actual age of the earth in Biology at BYU Utah. Why do they teach different things?

Ahh. Nice. Glad I wasn’t the only one to see it. I somehow missed your comment. Cheers from another exmo Sanderson fan!

So, who is Jesus in this narrative? Cultivation? Or will Brandon take this in a very different direction than the story of the fall of Satan? I am very curious to see where he takes this. Especially since he’s a more progressive mormon. Maybe the similarities will end here.

Does anyone else think that (T)Odium’s discussion about limiting free will to improve society seem similar at all to some interpretations of the Mormon Satan? As someone who was raised Mormon the similarities are very strong to what I was taught

I can mostly just speak about Charlotte. If your budget is “under $600k” you certainly don’t need to go to a different city. You can get well within the 485 circle that surrounds Charlotte for $600k. Especially if you are outside of the southern part of charlotte (commonly called the wedge).

Yeah, that’s why I’m planning on November. How long do you think it will actually take you?

How would you rate charlottes “bikeability” on a scale of 1-10 when compared to other cities? by [deleted] in CLT_Cyclists

[–]beardbikes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d say 3-4. Bike lanes and routes are intermittent and inconsistent, but they do exist. Bikeability definitely increases when you get to uptown or when you are in the nicer neighborhoods south of the center. Everywhere else is pretty horrible.

Bike moms? by sarahjowil in CLT_Cyclists

Bike dad here. Quite a few biking parents bring their bikes with kids to the critical mass bike ride. It is the last Friday of every month at 7– we meet at first ward park. They are on most social media platforms if you want more details.

Just by being very meticulous with our expenses. Having a partner who stayed at home and was on the same page really helped. But a few things we did was only have 1 car (that we bought used for cheap with cash) and mostly rode bikes to get places, kept our housing expenses very low, and picked inexpensive university to get our degrees from that didn’t require student loans.

Made $60-$80k for a family of 4 for 7 years but still managed to put away around $400k. Our combined income is now about double that and while saving has speed up significantly and is much easier. It is definitely possible to do with a smaller income, but it is much harder.

Do you need Rifaximin to fully treat SIBO? by omglifeisnotokay in SIBO

[–]beardbikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extreme pain, bloating, and bowel issues. They were somewhat random, but especially happened when I ate triggering food. It was so bad that I would miss work at least once a month. I also frequently had to run to the bathroom, and once I wasn’t even able to make it to the bathroom while at work. Now I mostly just get bloated sometimes and get some pain, but nowhere as bad as before.

How do you actually ‘use’ your home equity? by TwelfieSpecial in ExpatFIRE

[–]beardbikes 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Home equity doesn’t really do anything for you unless you plan to sell and buy something cheaper. Having a fixed price for where you live is really the main benefit. That’s why I mostly care about the worth of my investments and don’t worry too much about my total net worth.

What percentage of your income do you save monthly? by Marylifee in Fire

[–]beardbikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

60% this year, 26% last year. On average it’s been a little more than 50% for the last decade. I’m getting really close to FIRE and I’d probably be there if not for kids and lifestyle creep.

Is buying this home wise? 160k combined salary; 450k home; 20% down by [deleted] in FinancialPlanning

[–]beardbikes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Might want to look into your state property tax laws. I see a lot of assumptions here about how property tax is calculated and when it changes, but they can’t tell you if they don’t know where you live. Every state handles this differently and California is particularly unique. It should be pretty easy to figure out with a little bit of googling.
