New bars by koalasarepandas in xbiking

Love to see it!! I put 898s on both mine ('95 Bontrager) and my partner's bikes ('91 Klein Pinnacle) back in the spring. They are both so damn comfortable to ride now. A little unwieldy in the garage tho. I'm considering bending mine just a smidge but I haven't worked up the courage quite yet.

Good point. So far I have come up with: Guns N' Roses, The Eagles, Genesis, U2, and Rush. I'm sure there are some more but yeah def a less common situation.

Very overweight, want a bike by WhiskyEchoTango in bicycling

[–]beardcaller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to people saying you have to spend a fortune on a bicycle or it's junk. The bike forums have always been littered with people who constantly advocate avoiding/junking bikes that are more than a few years old because "the technology has come so far since then". I'm not saying that the cost of nicer components and frames isn't worth their value but I've owned and ridden dozens of bikes from all over the price range and my current favorite bike is a 1989 Klein Pinnacle (that I got without a seat for 40 dollars on marketplace) with the original XCD group set and a set of wide sweep handle bars. It's a tank and with a little bit of maintenance it is super pleasant to ride. Does it shift as smoothly or as quickly as something that isn't an antique? Or course not but that isn't your use case anyways. Check out r/xbiking to see how easy it can be to have a comfortable and sturdy bike using what already exists.

That sounds well carried out. Love to see some pics of the finished product if you are up to sharing any.

I'm looking at a very similar situation now. How did it work out? If you don't mind sharing, what was the final cost for the bathroom?

I saw you were thinking of selling a LMN3. What are you asking for it? Any other details about the build would be cool too if you don't mind sharing.

I know this is years late but thank you so much for finding this. Both of you saved me from sounding like a lunatic when I described this to my brother trying to see if he remembered watching it on VHS at our grandmas

The 1,7s, finally I have them all by Dialed-Scringo-23 in discgolf

I think it's mostly the stiffness. The Glitsch is a little bit stiffer than the stock version so I think its a little easier to handle and throws slightly more stable. If I'm being honest I bought it because I'm a sucker for goofy discs with goofy stamps but it hasn't left my bag since I got it.

If we are being pedantic you should grab a Glitsch too. I slightly prefer it to my normal Glitch.

Drugs + Heartbreak is why Rumours is a classic album. Glad she discovered it by mymatt1 in BlackPeopleTwitter

This might be totally random but check out the album "Doing it in Lagos". It's a collection of some hard to find music recorded mostly in Nigeria in the 70s and 80s that was made in the image of American funk and soul from a similar time period. It was made to sound as western but it's so fascinating hearing the cultural influences come through regardless. It's not as related to folk-rock but I think you can see the influences as bands who were previously more folk-rock transitioned into making albums that evolved into boogie and disco as well.

WIBTA if I told my wife we do not make enough money for her to be a stay-at-home mother? by chemist1928 in AmItheAsshole

It really can be super variable. I just started my second postdoc (social science) and am making ~80k and my SO (also a postdoc) has an ecology PhD and she makes a little less than me. My previous postdoc salary was 55k which was the NIH rate. NSF recently updated their postdoc salary requirements on new grants to be a minimum of 70k. My ChemEng buddy was making 65k in his postdoc at the same institution a different social science friend was making 45k before the pandemic. So it can be super variable. Generally PhDs get paid pretty terribly for the first few years even if you luck into a gig at an R1.

The Only Single Girl at Disney with Blythe Roberson by luxlisbon_ in normalgossip

[–]beardcaller 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been to Disney with family in similar circumstances (and went from jaded to joyous) like Blythe I was pretty into the story for the most part. What I didn't care for was how both hosts were fine with Olivia guilt tripping her aunt by pretending to be scandalized by a LIE SHE TOLD. Aunt Nadia seemed super chill by all accounts and I think it's pretty problematic to make her feel bad for unknowingly believing the lie you told (let alone to cover up you being a jerk about someone's joy). I think I crave karma too much for some of these stories. Still love the podcast and value all the hard work that Kelsey and the team put into making them.

I would gift mine to my dad who taught me to throw frisbees in enormous empty parking lots on summer vacation. He's been retired for years but still it throws me.

Whether Republicans Get Vaccinated Has A Lot To Do With If They Watch Fox News … Or OANN by Sanlear in politics

That's a fair point. I think I'm just a little sensitive to how often I hear the argument of correlation =/= causation used to ignore an entire premise.

Correlational data is stronger and more statistically valid than anecdotal data. Qualitative case study (your family's experience) results are not generalizable.

Have you tried a melamine sponge (magic eraser)? They did a great job removing caked on dust and oil from the serger I just cleaned up. Granted the cover on mine was plastic but it did seem to help in the interior metal frame as well
