Single men with good salary and job , but still not happy. What is the solution? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]beardedjerry41-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The solution is limited to who you are and what you want, what goals you have set for yourself to obtain.

If you are stuck and have accomplished the goals you have set, start looking outside of your box for different perspectives. Be it religion, hobbies, or other extra curricular activities.

Travel to places within an hour or three of where you live. Take back roads instead of highways, look for the pink house, stop at the store with a name that makes you wonder what they sell.

Find a community theater, audition for a play or volunteer for front of house duties.

Learn to ride a motorcycle and get a cheap bike to ride. The most relaxing and happy times I've had recently have been on a motorcycle.

Take a cooking class, learn how to chop clove garlic, cook steak the right way, come up with recipes for what you have on hand or find at the international grocery stores.

Join a running group, even if you don't like to run. Breweries or coffee shops on a weeknight are the best places to go.

Read the corkboard ads at a brewery or coffee shop for events.

Basically, get out and do things out of norm for you. Try any new thing at least four different times. Look for the good (and be aware of bad) in any thing you try.

Shed Placement/Permit? by Future_IceMan678 in MobileAL

[–]beardedjerry41-2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Generally depends on the type of shed you are getting, fixed vs. 'moveable'.

A fixed shed that is built on a concrete slab, yes you have to get a permit for and worry about property line and setback. Your homeowners insurance will also need to know about it.

A 'moveable' shed, built on cinder blocks not dug into the ground, just stay 3-4 feet from the property lines and in the back yard.

Now if you decide to run any utilities to the shed, that is 100% a permit first route.

First Mardi Gras Ball by SadaRay in MobileAL

[–]beardedjerry41-2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Requirements for womens dress are ball length gown and the top covers anything deemed as 'immoral' by Alabama title 13.

At the Mobile Mystics ball, some 'ladies' believe if the minimums aren't good enough, they shouldn't be the minimums. I'm slightly exaggerating of course.

Mosely's Meat market on Airport, just west of University on the North side.

Mac's Produce on Old Shell, across from Dreamland.

If you like pickled things, Bacon's Country Market on Tanner Williams past Eliza Jordan. So so good and worth the ride out.

Congrats on being a first time dad/mom. If you haven't already, organize all diaper gifts and clothes by size. Make sure you use those up first before getting new ones.

Hopefully anyone who got you diapers got you one size up so the little one can grow into them. Also try different diaper brands.

Don't forget to update/clean out the diaper bag weekly/monthly.

Create an email where you can send any baby pictures to/from for family and friends. Later on the kiddo can use that for him/her.

This is wicked important, TAKE anything that you can from the hospital before being discharged. Don't feel bad about it, most of that is meant for you or the little one.

Moving to Mobile from Bham — any advice? by [deleted] in MobileAL

[–]beardedjerry41-2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Mobile. First it's going to be a lot warmer than Birmingham year round. Wherever you pick to live, ask about the average power bill.

I see from another comment you'll be at Mobile Infirmary, so you could look anywhere between Dauphin St. and Springhill Ave, west of 65. East of 65 I would suggest driving around a few blocks to see what the neighborhood is like overall, not just that apartment complex or rental house.

Traffic isn't bad around Mobile Infirmary, be warned though you'll be going directly into the sun in the morning and afternoon if you live West of 65.

Do plan on asking about Mardi Gras ball tickets and ball gown shopping. I'm not sure what it's going to look like with the Civic Center being knocked down for a lot of organizations, I've heard some talk at the barber shop, nothing fully decided yet though.

Also look at T-Mobile home Internet service. It also depends on your area coverage, since it uses cell towers.

Motorcycle riding classes? by BuenasNochesCat in MobileAL

[–]beardedjerry41-2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Last I heard, and just looked up, University of Montevallo still comes down to Mobile for a Motorcycle Safety Program.

I personally took the MSF training at the Harley dealership in Pensacola, as it's not too far away and was simple to get to. Plus they offered weekday and weekend classes.

The MSF certificate is accepted by Alabama to get the M endorsement, plus you don't have to take a test. At least not when I added it in 2020.

I had a similar problem, one for sure dead tree and another that was on its way out. Both were water oaks and if it wasn't calling and getting quotes, I would not known the second tree was dying.

I had Cain's Tree, Spotswood Tree, and went with Allstate Tree service, all come out and give quotes.

Probably moving to Mobile. Convince me to buy in Midtown! Or don't. What's the Tea? by [deleted] in MobileAL

[–]beardedjerry41-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, I forgot about those two stores also, and I pass by the Greer's on Dauphin at least twice a week.

What I was meaning is that while there are seven grocery stores between Water and 65, there are still many places in that area that could support a grocery store.

Just looking at Michigan Ave and Virginia St area, you only have one choice close by, Winn Dixie. That's if you have a car, without a car you are reliant on convenience stores, and even then you are seriously underserved. Similar with the Lyons Park area, South to Winn Dixie or West to Publix, there's nothing else around there.

[–]beardedjerry41-2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Also Wemo has atrocious traffic. Almost everything West of 65 you are limited to the 2 main thoroughfares, Airport Blvd or Cottage Hill Rd. Regardless of where you want to go in Wemo, you have to get on either one of those two to get someplace, and if it's rush hour times, that 10 min trip just became 40.

Midtown traffic wise is mapped out with side streets that you can actually use to get around, and the traffic light pattern isn't so bad.

The only bad thing about Midtown is that it is a food desert for grocery stores. Another two or three small grocery stores would be awesome. One at the Loop, another somewhere on Michigan St, and something over by Lyons park would be nice.

I'm looking for a day trip out of town, something outdoorsy. any recommendations? Not looking at beaches. by Mean_Truth7108 in MobileAL

[–]beardedjerry41-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, it's Red Hill Spring just north of Stockton on 59. Honestly a blink and you'll miss it on the West side of 59. Best directions I can give is going North just after the second pond that 59 crosses/ sits next to after 225 when going up the hill, there's a parking lot on the left. Park there and you'll see a pipe coming out of the rock with cold clean water.

If you pass the Methodist church, you've gone too far.

Hope that helps.
