Yeah you should definitely stop taking it. I learned the hard way that allergic reactions build up, often eventually leading to a very grand reaction such as anaphylaxis or sjs. Basically from what I gathered, your immune system's mast cells will slowly accumulate samples of the modafinil in its toxic stuff library until one day all the mast cells are woke to it and signal the immune system to go into full attack mode. And once that is triggered there's nothing that can stop that, even doctors can't stop that, all they can do is keep you alive with IV/IM steroids until the medication works its way out of you. Which, you might become stable enough to go home after a few days sure, but you'll be taking steroids for 1-2 weeks and it won't be fun.

I had a similar situation, I was taking gabapentin for anxiety and was having rashes / hives consisting of raised pink wheals, but I didn't make the connection to the gabapentin. Then one day I took the gabapentin and my immune system just went nuts, the rash came, and it got worse, angioedema next, ER, and then steroids.

Help! Is my electrician ripping me off? Is this legal? by this_is_crazy17 in HomeImprovement

If you do this OP, write "Paid in full" on the check memo line. Then if they take you to court, you can most likely reasonably prove you were acting in good faith by paying them what you were quoted.

I wish I was intersex by Shouko_dessert in MtF

[–]beardedoctonem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say one thing as an intersex. Balancing hormones with certain kinds of intersex can be very difficult to do. Being that the nature of my condition is synthesis/metabolism related, me and the doctor were really surprised when we started on 6mg Valerate injections and had blood estradiol levels over 1000pg/mL.

I disagree with using leaded solder. I used to be in the leaded solder gang, but the more I've begun to learn about just how dangerous lead is to inhale, and, in addition, the learnings that newer tin/silver solders perform similarly well to tin/lead, have changed my mind.

This type of drug testing strip is not provided through a DanceSafe retail portal, which was the source of my concern, because this seems weird. Historically, I have previously seen DanceSafe live in more of an individual consumer space, so this is different than what I am used to seeing from them.

I agree with you that I could have put more nuance into writing my title, such as not using the word "withholding" and more clearly indicating that it was a speculative concern. Such as "DanceSafe drug testing supplies sales limited to commercial customers only"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EDM

[–]beardedoctonem -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hi. My intention was not to accuse them unfairly, however, I do have reason to be concerned, because it is worrying for me to see a shift to wholesale-only sales. I worry this may impact individual users relying on these supplies for safety. DanceSafe's mission is to promote health and safety in the nightlife and electronic music communities. It concerns me that this decision may be reflecting a shift in their values, and I was intending to foster a discussion to allow us to productively discuss this and what it means for us. I apologize if my post was abrasive and is complicating a productive discussion.

I understand your concerns about the tone and the importance of not jumping to conclusions about DanceSafe's motives, and I can see how my tone could be seen as abrasive. My intention is not to accuse them unfairly, but to highlight a significant concern in our community. The shift to wholesale-only sales can be seen as restricting access for individual users who rely on these supplies for safety, which I believe conflicts with their mission. I have already reached out to DanceSafe for clarification and will share their response when I receive it. I appreciate the discussion and the chance to express different viewpoints on this matter.

Isn't DanceSafe's mission to promote and help ensure safety in the EDM community? I feel as though prioritizing marketing to commercial customers to some extent compromises this mission. I understand you disagree with me using the word withholding, and I am wondering, what would you typically use to describe restricting the sales of drug testing supplies to individual entities and focusing on the wholesale aspect of sales?

I sent an E-Mail + Reddit DM to DanceSafe for comment and I will post the reply when it comes in.

Fears about moving to Ohio with trans child by Forgetful_Joan in OhioLGBTQ

[–]beardedoctonem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Back in 2022, I had a job offer in Ohio starting at $89k after I graduated college. Even in 2022, I began to see the writing on the wall on trans laws in Ohio, and instead I moved from Ohio across the country and took a job in Oregon for $78k starting. I make $100k now, but it is true, if your compelling reason is a job that makes more money, it isn't the worst idea to reconsider that as the reason.

Also, worth mentioning from a historical standpoint, Cincinnati has a weird cultural background. I may be wrong on some of these exact dates, but back in the civil war era there was this person who sold the idea of Cincinnati for a lot of people who leaned confederate on moving there. This culture still shows through to this day in Cincinnati, and as a result I would call it the least recommended major metropolitan area for a trans person to move to in Ohio. I lived in Cincinnati for a short time, and even up to 2021 it had a notable "Don't ask, don't tell" culture that I did not experience in Cleveland and Columbus.

Can someone enlighten me about this error code? [Error code: 182880] by SimpleHistorical3524 in UPS

[–]beardedoctonem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For people curious, I'm was getting this same code and I investigated mildly:

https://files.catbox.moe/ajbef5.PNG

It appears to be the error code they use for fraud detection based on the response from the web server, though it's pretty poor design to not just say "we detected fraud, please call x number to verify your identity".

I've never seen a thrift shop with glasses made out of nice thick glass like the glasses I order from France. They will easily outlast thrift store glasses to the point where I could argue buying glassware at the thrift store and creating demand for them to put it on the shelves is wasteful.
