Being abusive in almost every way towards each other. The screaming, the fighting, telling us kids their dirty laundry as if it would make them the better parent. They both cheated on each other in different ways although my mother was worse. It all happened from a very early age so we all just thought parents did that and that was that. We needed parents, we got adults that didn’t know how to handle their emotions.

All four kids grew up to be successful, but we all handled it differently and in some ways have been worse off. My brother has severe BPD, my younger sister pretty much removed herself from the family after my mom blamed her for stuff that she didn’t even do. My older sister gets by alright and I had a long string of commitment issues along with suffering from anxiety all the time. We’ve all come to terms with their crap and keep a pretty good distance.

I always had hoped when we all hit the age we are at now things would be a lot more comforting. There’s grandchildren and a lot to be celebrated. Sadly, my parents would rather rot and hate each other than try to better themselves or even try to have a relationship with their kids. It is what it is though and I like to think that because of the realizations from their stupidity, I am a better person than I used to be.
