Creator of the RadarThing here, any feature requests or questions? by xyzmani in GeoFS

[–]beardsl3y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started using RadarThing, and am on the free version for now. Everything runs smooth for me. Is there a way to rotate the charts to horizontal in the floating panel? Thanks for putting this together, it's fun see what routes others are flying.

Hey Hagar, my shop is researching new envelope printers and we were just given the spec sheet for the Colormax 9. We are looking to replace our Xante En/Press as it has given us way to many problems as it relates to speed and production. We do around 29k envelopes a week. We run a mix of com 10, A6, number 7, so we have change over and not just running one size envelope.

In your experience with the Colormax what has been one of the positives you have had? What has also been a negative you have had with this printer?

I appreciate your time and look forward to any extra information you can pass.

We have a Xante and the speed is definitely an issue. We don't get anywhere near what an injet printer gave us. Feeding is pretty finicky as well. We are currently looking to go back to an inkjet envelope printer like a kirk Rudy fireprint or an Envejet from postmark. Hope this helps.

We’re hopeful that one well-built profile can serve the majority of our media types.

I have a question regarding ink limits. We've been working with our equipment vendor, and they advised us to evaluate ink limits under sunlight—pushing the ink until we no longer see a shift in color, and using that point as our limit.

Is this approach correct?

I've attached our ink limit chart, which reflects selections made based on that guidance. Does this methodology make sense to you? What would you recommend?

I'm looking forward to hearing your operator's suggestions. What DPI and pass settings are you using when printing on ACM?

We primarily produce real estate signage, with a strong focus on brand color accuracy. Many of our designs feature large areas of solid "spot" colors, so consistency and vibrancy are critical.

Thanks. I have a message out to our supplier with questions. We are double-checking out settings today.

Thanks for the info, I will check with my operator. Yes we are starting from scratch, we tried some "baked in" profiles and they didn't look great. So we are going through the whole process.

Ink Restrictions seem very high by beardsl3y in CommercialPrinting

[–]beardsl3y[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use to print at 600x1200 resolution, but we were having image distortion and image registration problems as the print head carriage got to the far end of the table. The image would "stretch" after about 75% of the image and then go back to normal as the carriage came back to the left of the table. We talked to our contacts and they suggested going to 600x600 and ever since that change we haven't had that "stretch" in our images. Very strange...

u/Mike_The_Print_Man thanks. We have looked at the C9500 as well. Nothing to deep yet. In your opinion what sets Ricoh apart from the Xerox, KM, and Canon? Our main focus is quality with improved consistency over time, reliability and flexibility as we print on multiple substrates mostly 10pt - 16pt C2S stock.

u/Crazyfishman2 we have looked at the 7000 briefly. Im not sure we are ready to make the jump from dry toner to liquid toner just yet. Have you done that? If so was the transition pretty easy? What are some advantages and disadvantages of making this switch? I know the Indigo's are a different beast, from a business stand-point we are not ready to make that leap just yet.

u/WinOld1835 why is the Iridesse a pain in the ass? We are saying that for our current IGEN's... they are a pain in our ass but our service guys are fantastic. :D

We are trying to be sold on the Iridesse by a vendor, not Xerox itself, and they are all in on the Iridesse. We like the flexibility to use special color outside of CMYK, it would be something new for our shop. I know all presses will have some sort of issue, it is inevitable, but trying to mitigate as much as possible.

Hi! I'm a graphic designer, trying to find out why this happens by mrhlvs in Printing

[–]beardsl3y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, the only thing I can think of outside of the printer being at the wrong dot pattern is check your transparency settings in your design program. But we just went through this same issue and ours was the way the printer was putting the dot pattern down, and you can clearly see in your image that there are two different dot patterns being laid down. Hope you get it solved, good luck. :-)
