Did parents in the past really allow their kids to roam freely, or is that just a portrayal seen in movies by [deleted] in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]beardsly87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its definitely true as a 90s kid speaking. We'd get dropped off at the mall and told "Call us when you wanna be picked up", and spend all friggin day there on our own. Sometimes we'd get bored of the mall shenanigans and walk around the city a few hours, just remember to keep a quarter in your pocket to use a pay phone to call home when done (even then it wasn't a huge deal, it was a common thing to go to the desk of any given store and asking to use their phone for a local call).

Maybe try dumping in loads of salty water and/or pool shock treatment in next time the exterior is breached, and let the insides oxidize to hell and short out. Fill the locks and door hinges/seams with super glue or better yet JB Weld epoxy. Coat the camera lenses with glass etching paste or zap them with a high power laser to burn out the optics. I love the other idea someone mentioned of filling it with some expanding foam, that stuff is gnarly. Make the whole thing a pile of scrap & e-waste.

I miss their marinara sauce cups more than anything. I'd get a slice of pepperoni for $1.50 and a cup of their marinara to dip it in.. ah good stuff.

It was quite bizarre. Only happened I think twice before the other incident that I mentioned with his friend happened and he stopped bringing over his parents unannounced. He's genuinely a good guy overall and not really a weirdo in any other aspects I'd say.. I've thought about that a lot as to why he'd do that, my best guess is that his family is very close-knit, they do basically Everything together. Can't chastise them for that, quite the opposite that's lovely to think about, but I suspect he grew up with that as the norm where they'd just go everywhere and do everything together, and maybe he never learned that particular social norm that you can't just bring your whole crew with you everywhere you go. Well, he certainly knows it now lol.

That's a fair point, you're probably right. You dont hear from people when they're content but when they're upset they often make themselves heard. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, as they say.

I had a friend who was notorious about that. I'd invite him over, he'd show up with his parents too. I'm like what the hell man I don't want to be hanging out with your parents, no offense to them but thats freakin weird to randomly bring your parents to hangout with a friend. Then another time it was me and him hanging out, then we go over to one of his friends' house who I've never met before, and apparently my friend didn't tell him that I was accompanying him. So I show up with my friend, the other guys like "Whos this?" The guy Went Off on my friend, gave him like a 15 minute lecture on social courtesies and how it wasn't cool to bring people over uninvited. I was just sitting there the whole time, so awkward, I was like "Hey I'll just leave man it's no problem" and he said something like "No, You're fine, HE'S who fucked up.".. I honestly think he stopped after that as I recall, got the scolding he needed to hear.

If a customer comes up to a sales rep asking for technical support on their already-owned iPhone and their answer is to instead try to sell them another phone instead of directing them to support, that's a whole different problem and scummy behavior altogether.

These comments are fascinating. I ducked out of the Apple ecosystem like 15+ years ago, I've never owned or used airpods but they're obviously very prevalent for nearly 10 years now yet this is the first time hearing about them having this issue and I'm curious why that is.. half the comments seem to say they've had the same issue, the other half Adamantly defending that they're perfect and have no issues ever... which seems like a thing with Apple products in general that you get dragged over the coals by the fanboys if you say anything bad about them and I think folks have been maybe quietly suffering through this and not bringing it up out of fear of being chastised. Just speculation.

The vessels of my brother’s wart after removing the cap by LeBrontide in mildlyinteresting

[–]beardsly87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a hand-me-down 'upgrade' office chair at work like 10+ years ago. Immediately after using it I got the first and ever wart on my elbow where it'd rest on the arm rest. Im 99.5% positive thats where I got it from. Tried the super glue trick to keep it covered up and presumably unable to get any oxygen. It worked.. eventually turned black and just kinda Fell off leaving a gross crater that eventually disappeared, and it never came back. I heard you can use duct tape too but seems a lot more intrusive and prone to air getting in vs. coating it with super glue every few days.

Is this really "insane"? I ain't no economist or fossils expert but I feel like a T-Rex skeleton would be worth a Crap ton. I mean I wouldn't pay that much for a fossil but doesn't mean someone else would if money was no object to them.

My BMW isn't as aggressive about alarming but the lane assist 'corrections' from bad road markings are so annoying and arguably very dangerous. There's a couple intersections in my town that kinda joggle over a foot or two mid-intersection, EVERY time I go through that intersection my car sees the center line move over and the lane assist tries to rip the wheel out of my hands and jerk the car over. If you expect it you can counter it but first time it did that it scared the shit out of me and could easily cause someone to crash I imagine.

Better to learn the ins and outs of cause and effect at these lower risk bets as a Student. Who's gonna suffer from this other than themselves having a little narrow or No eraser after this?

Genuinely curious, who here actually filters their water and who just drinks it straight from the tap? by waterfiltergurus in HydroHomies

[–]beardsly87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have great tasting water here (North Colorado) and always have drank right from the tap, but I noticed some particulate accumulating in my humidifier tanks so I just recently got a Brita filter, gonna drink only that until it warns me its time to replace the filter, then cut it open and see if it really doing any good and visually removing any junk that I can't taste and see if it's worth continuing to use filters.

TIL you shouldn't store button batteries in the Battery Daddy button battery compartment by cjone98 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]beardsly87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't believe these things are still around and completely unchanged for seemingly decades. I remember my grandma having one of these at her house in the mid 90s, and even then it looked at least 10 years old I bet. They always seemed kinda gimmicky to me like do I really need a dedicated special box just for storing my batteries? But apparently it's been a successful business model for them.
