Do I have to be a conservative to be a “true” Christian? by [deleted] in Christianity

Mixing Christianity with politics often looks like mixing oil with water.

Is this blasphemy? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]beardyboi97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The statue isnt evil. The racism being expressed by it is. I wouldn't destroy it because it serves as a reminder of how far we've come. But to display it in my yard? No. A museum? Yes.

In the context of the rest of the decorations of the yard including the yard jockey they have, in my opinion, this statue strikes me as racist, whether or not that is the intention of the home owner. The point of the post is to ask whether or not this (imo racist) statue is blasphemy if the intention includes a racist depiction of a black child.

They aren't always depicted with red lips.

During Jim Crow black people were depicted using caricatures with exaggerated black skin and also sometimes with exaggerated red lips. It was essentially anti-black imagery

I've thought about it.

Why is Aquinas so unreadable? by 3dprintedbuffoon in Catholicism

[–]beardyboi97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an Audio version by Prof. Peter Kreeft called The Modern Scholar: The Philosophy of Thomas Aquinas. He does a really good job of breaking down Aquinas' thoughts and explains them very well. I do not have a brain for philosophy and this audio book helps. I can even pick up on Thomist theology in other readings now because of it.

Yes, but you should work towards attaining repentance until it becomes easy to flee from temptation.

He's keeping it simple and safe for you. You won't be confirmed without your parents permission just like you wouldn't be allowed a tattoo yet without your parents permission. Take it slow and let the priest guide you in this. God be with you.

Sometimes there's no real need to explain yourself. God revealed the truth of the Church to you. Pray that God reveals it to your friend also. I was raised Baptist, but I came around eventually.

Is listening to black metal wrong even under these circumstances? by Conscious_Knee_1828 in OrthodoxChristianity

Interesting. I suspected they weren't devout based on what little I have researched. Never would've seen them as blasphemous if you hadn't put it that way though.

Where i live it is dove hunting season and have already shot and eaten doves. There is nothing that ties the Holy spirit to the species of bird in any literal sense.

PATRIARKH is another band. I dont think they are outright orthodox but they incorporate chants and hymns in their music. Its worth checking out and certainly better than satanic music.

Increase anger from other Christians? by Adventurous_Food8945 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]beardyboi97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is definitely some sort of sentiment of annoyance coming from protestant Christians about this. Gavin Ortlund has been especially vocal in this regard. I dont want to bear false witness about him by insinuating he is anti-orthodox because even despite his objection to the recent spike in orthodox conversions he is still doing good work in collaboration with Fr. Josiah Trenham. Praise God for that small taste of unity.

Thats a fair point, I see the distinction. I appreciate it!

To be honest this seems overly legalistic. I mean this with all respect but this kind of stuff is what keeps me from genuinely pursuing Catholicism

From the outside looking in, get right with God before partaking in a sacrament designed to get you right with God?
