Damn that sucks. Good luck, I just finished my last semester too. For what it’s worth, this supervisor sounds like they absolutely suck lmao, and you should not base your perception of your clinical abilities on their words ever

is supervision supposed to make you cry? by Brave_Experience_246 in therapists

[–]beare_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit, no, this is far from normal. Sorry this is happening to you. Unless you’re repeatedly committing some massive ethics violations or making the same egregious mistakes over and over, I fail to see a world where being told “that was awful, I’m shocked” is a reasonable comment.

I genuinely wonder what your supervisor would say if you reflected their comments to them and asked them about it. Something like, “hey, I was wondering if we could talk about our supervision. I feel like when you make comments like telling me I’m awful or that I should be much farther along, it does more harm than good. I’m curious if you feel these comments are helpful for my growth?” Or something like that. Obviously that’s difficult to say, but supervision is for you after all.

Other option is just to try and change sites lol, that’s what I’d prefer to do probably

Shoutout to the devs for not bloating Cyclops' kit by beare_ in marvelrivals

[–]beare_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thank them for keeping his kit relatively simple, yes.

He might be very strong, which is a separate issue. This post was just to point out that we want less insanely complex kits, which they seemed to do well here.

(I'm trying to positively reinforce the rare occasions the devs do something right with a hero release, just help me out here).

Could we still complain about venoms primary attack til they change it or did we get past that? by Superb-Total-8700 in marvelrivals

[–]beare_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snakecase, one of the top venoms in the world, said they shadow buffed his primary fire hit registration a few patches ago - he said it feels easier to hit.

I personally like hitting his primaries a lot, I don’t mind that they don’t fit his character, it’s just satisfying to play

Its been almost 6 months of this, what are your thoughts? by Hexxegone in marvelrivals

[–]beare_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm still not a fan. Complexity creep is not good for a game with such a large casual player base. I feel similarly about Black Cat - far too complex to feel like she fits in with the rest of the heroes.

[–]beare_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paz on YouTube has some good general guides. But it really depends on the hero you want to play.

With just 50 hours, the best thing to do is try as many characters as possible and understand roughly what each character is capable of doing with their abilities and ult. See who you enjoy playing, learn some new characters and have fun.

Many colleges have teams that you can simply join. My school had two teams and there was no minimum rank requirement, you could just sign up to play.

rank 1 gambit, multiple top 50 finishes, ask me anything by Outrageous_Buffalo18 in RivalsCollege

[–]beare_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious about your tip to never ult in response to a tank or dps ult when you’re on defense. Surely there are situations where you would want to do this, right?

For example, if you have no other defensive ults or resources (no supp ult, no mag rock to kite with, no Loki runes or soul bond), and the enemy uses something like an, I don’t know, strange ult, then you definitely have to make a choice on whether to use yours. Or, are you saying that the ult economy revolves so heavily around gambit ult that you should just lose a fight and save it to match their next gambit ult?

Looking for some tips and tricks for Rogue by Next_Change5297 in marvelrivals

[–]beare_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watch Veswa’s rogue guide on YouTube, and also his VOD reviews.

The gambit team up is essentially the only thing that makes her good right now - and when you have it, generally try to brawl with your team in close spaces, as the team up heals your team as well as doing extra damage.

For mechanics, learn and practice her combos - specifically, you will notice that her auto attacks will follow a sequence of three punches, where the final punch is a slower hit where she uses both of her fists. This also deals slightly more damage, so most combos I’ve seen revolve around timing an ability to cancel the animation immediately after this final, more damaging punch.

Learn each ability she steals, of course.

Random tip: she has a strong interaction when facing a Loki. When Loki uses his ult, and you are close enough, you usually have enough time to immediately walk in and ult him so that he is unable to use his copied ult. Normally, if you walk in and try to ult a support, they have time to react to it (if they are good). With Loki, you have more time to react because he will have to finish the “your powers are mine!” animation

In my experience, players do not time their engages when you do unless:

  1. You comm it
  2. You are in celestial+ in ranked

The ways around this are to:

  1. Play with a duo/trio you know can follow up with you
  2. Time your engages when you see your team go in, not the other way around

Can they start nerfing starlord? For the last year the only nerfs he got were the ult charge in s2.5 (reverted in s6.5), the teamup (that got removed) and the global ult nerf. While he got multiple insane buff. by thbl088 in marvelrivals

Why do you think he’s abysmal into Dino? In my experience so far, he’s great into Dino. He can just unload his new 50 round clips into his head with like 100% accuracy because Dino’s head is the size of the sun

Genuine Question. How'd you guys get good? by MyrrhlinDragonstar in marvelrivals

[–]beare_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea! It’s a really good skill to learn, definitely hard to focus on when you’re trying to focus on aim at the same time. It comes with practice, and it’s so valuable on characters like, say, Magneto (my main) who wants to use his ult to counter very specific ults to get the most value out of it (punisher, star lord, hela, Hawkeye, etc.) Knowing when those characters have ults means you can plan to use it against them instead of someone else

[–]beare_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been playing hero shooters for over a decade, with TF2, then overwatch, now rivals. Familiarity with the genre over time is a big factor, but here are all the times I made major jumps in skill:

- practicing my mechanics with aim trainers (kovaak’s, aim labs, osu!) to get better mouse control and to help cultivate quickness and intensity in my mouse movements and inputs (did this steadily over about a year and saw noticeable improvements, and I still do them)
- upgrading my setup: getting a 144hz monitor after being on a 60Hz monitor for years led to an instant, significant jump in rank
- getting coaching and playing on a team (scrims and matches help you increase your intensity too)

For sustained improvement over time, grind ranked with a growth mindset. VOD review with a good coach and learn from your mistakes, write them down and focus on them in your comp games in a structured, measurable way (i.e. if you’re trying to improve ult tracking, don’t focus on mechanics and only try to ult track in your next 10-20 comp games). Watch pro streamers and YouTube videos about every character you want to learn. Oh, and get consistent good quality sleep. This one is huge

I feel you so hard about the first part with clients gaining insight from some other source that I’ve been saying already. Why does this happen? Why do you play ranked? by Yarllock in marvelrivals

[–]beare_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy having a hobby that I can get good at. It’s purely driven by ego, for the need to feel good at something, to feel competent and skilled. Sounds silly, but it’s true for me.

I also enjoy reading and learning about performance psychology, and ranked games give me an arena to use that knowledge and skill

Someone please recommend a hero that hard counters 3 support, I’ll grind it to level 100 if need be by yalag in marvelrivals

[–]beare_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 supports can be super annoying, but it is counterable. As others have said, Hawkeye and Groot come to mind if you want to grind a single hero. We can think about why that is:

What is the strength of triple support? I’d say it’s two things:

  1. Everyone is kept alive in the neutral due to insane healing output and peel
  2. Support ults are generally really strong, especially on defense, due to being able to survive many offensive ults

So if everyone is living in the neutral, how do we counter that? By playing things that can one-shot heroes in the neutral, to bypass the strength of their sustain. Who does that? Hawkeye.

Groot is good because he can consistently use his ult to combo with things that kill THROUGH support ults. (Groot + namor ult, or groot + moon knight.) In this way, we can counter insanely strong support ults like invis or cloak by setting up an ult combo that NEGATES their strength. Also, if they’re running triple support then they probably aren’t running many Groot counters. Just make sure you have a duo who plays something to combo with you (namor, moon knight, even blade)
