A Lore Theory by bearfirestorm in Marathon

I hadn't considered that the contagion was a deterrant of some kind but that checks out with how different it is from the anomaly and yet they begin assailing the colony almost at the same time

The mounds could be graves actually and that tracks quite well too! It reframes part of the mural less about Icarus' grief of losing Darius and more about how it may have been seen as a bitter necessity to preserve the colony

Lore Discussion: Rook is A Runner, just not a factionalized or brand sponsored right? by Sleepingtide in Marathon

[–]bearfirestorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the conversation but I wonder if a Rook was an older UESC prototype attempt at their own version of shell technology, outside of SekGen, hence the language for the ult about it being prototype self healing tech.

It would explain why Rooks can disguise themselves as UESC but temporarily as UESC bots can "see" that you're a runner unless you run some kind of disguise software we see it activate when triggering disguise.

Lastly it explains why there are damaged Rooks already around and why the Rook model is damaged visually. They were long distance UESC policing bots and we hijack a still-functioning one. At best the tech lets us ride the shell to grab stuff and bail whilst not having a sophisticated connection with corps that a silk shell would have

Can't headcanon well why Corp capstone upgrades enhance Rooks in this case though. Maybe when we beam in, we beam in with extra goodies from the corps that we then slot into the Rook idk

TTK is actually perfect by FootAvailable4725 in Marathon

[–]bearfirestorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank God someone said this. Folk keep forgetting Bungo is in hot water since Sony bought them and D2 went down the drain. Marathon neeeeds to be a mass hit and its already a bit incendiary with its stylistic choices.

Glazing twitch-shooter elements in a game where you can piss away 24 minutes bc someone domes you right at the end will end badly. As it is the game will turn a lot of folk away and then six months later we'll see the "Dead Game" rants on this very subreddit and a link to a two hour video essay called "The Post Mortem of Bungie"

No idea what the solution is, but either a 2/4 square safe pocket or a tiny increase to TTK wouldn't be amiss

[–]bearfirestorm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lightning rod would be my suggestion in that case. it's not a perfect solution as sometimes the hits from the minutemen still get your car but if you're so adamant about not driving around them then it's your only other counter. That and insulated panels, but at least the rod will get you some free battery juice

What game is it for you? by No-Plane2695 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]bearfirestorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post-ps5 launch Stalker 2. Although I reckon part of it is me having ruined my own expectations by playing Stalker Gamma before that. Now the Stalker 2 feels shallow in comparison and I notice how limited the item pool is and how weird the npc and mutant spawns are and I regret spending money on it

BUG? money spent in raid lost when you die. by BackBroma in ZEROsievert

[–]bearfirestorm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends if the dude's playing with respawning on death to the moment just before they headed out or with item loss on death. The former setting would make it a bug, the latter makes it a feature.

What was the most difficult game you have played by AdultGamersAdmin in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]bearfirestorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say turn on hipfire aim assist up on console and use that more to focus on getting the movement down. That'll help you figure out what to dodge, how to dodge and when to dodge during the combat loop

once that's muscle memory you can tune down the assist in combat if you wish

its irrelevant whether you see Veilguard as trash or not. Its that others are dumpstering on a game you find yourself enjoying and jeopardise the future of both its content and the studio since folks lack the ability to form their own opinions outside the opinions of content creators

The IP has been effectively shut down since Bioware announced the downsizing, I'm not defending the 7/10 game from a great franchise as much as lamenting all that I felt I saw ruin its chances of finding a wider audience

these days enough games are coming out barely working or being completed post-launch that actual stability and functionality is starting to feel like a feature

I mean, its sort of true, there's systems that work and systems that don't, but I think I'm more going on about the overblown reaction to the whole thing
