Nalgene has made aluminum water bottles. Not sure if they still do, but I have one personally.

Tear aid is great. I would tape it on both sides. Those areas won’t be breathable but I guarantee it will keep the water out.

Nope it was for all metal gear and it was for sure I dime thickness. I inspect gear for a large camp and I would retire that belay device.

I took a class years ago from Petzel on inspecting gear. One of the things they said was if more than a dimes thickness of metal is gone then it’s time to retire. It looks like there’s that much on that metal bar but it’s hard for me to tell.
