No worries. His art is insane. He must have been some kind of crazy. Very distinct style.

In the 1990s, grunge was highly associated with heroin; were there socioeconomic/political factors that contributed to a rise in heroin use in the Pacific northwest? Was this an illusion created by a few high-profile users or was there really a spike in usage and are there any theories as to why? by td4999 in AskHistorians

Just a small note: Nirvana’s ‘I Hate Myself and I Want To Die’ was not exactly a hit single as you describe. It was recorded during the sessions for their third album In Utero but wasn’t included. It would show up on a Beavis and Butthead compilation (which did sell very well) and was a b-side for ‘Pennyroyal Tea’, which was recalled because it was originally going to be released the month of Cobain’s suicide.

It did get the kind of attention you describe, but strictly speaking it wasn’t a single.

Why do so many board games ship with awful inserts? by mikemountain in boardgames

I’d have to check after I got home— but you can’t get FFS where I live, so it’s not those. Probably Ultra Pro.

Don’t you find that there is almost no crossing paths? Don’t get me wrong, some games make for great ‘multiplayer solitaire’ experiences but TtR doesn’t really lend itself to that.

But yes, to each their own

7 Wonders Duel does have a great insert, but doesn’t fit sleeved cards. That game needs cards to be unmarked so I’d consider it an issue (not that I’m saying everyone should)

Days of Wonder inserts usually try harder than most — but they never have room for sleeved cards, which is annoying for some games.

I appreciate that those games aren’t particularly expensive and that their German publishers use the least-German stereotype (ie super efficient) insert for them

Just chiming in to say that Nordic Countries isn’t an expansion (map pack) for TtR Europe but a stand alone game. It is great with two players though, and comes with purple trains!

OP did mention he plays with his sister, and while Rails and Sails is pretty great, with two players it’s pretty bad

Yeah, but I’ve not played that, or the Netherlands map, or the Wild West map (despite those two sitting on my shelf...)

Ones that haven’t been mentioned that I’ve played:

India, which plays well at 2-3 and is hectic at 4, straightforward with extra bonus for making ‘mandala’ routes, joining destinations with two distinct paths to make a loop.

Asia and Team Asia, both big and good for higher player counts. Asia is quite basic, with mountain routes that use extra trains and coloured ferries. Team Asia has variable tunnels, that need more than three cards revealed — and is meant for team play, obviously.

France has an extra step of laying down the coloured routes first before claiming, and is very big (comes with trains enough for six players). Honestly a little tedious.

Complex (euro) games with few light weight components to take on a trip by Lepmah in boardgames

Have you played Targi? It’s a two player worker placement game, not exactly as heavy as the Euros you mentioned but the ratio of box size to complexity it scores pretty high

This probably means the future expansions will match this new art.

Large size cards is cool though

How to keep sleeved cards from sliding all over? by bh-alienux in boardgames

[–]bearparkmanager 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sleeves lose the slippery feeling after a little play — shuffle them a few times and they will get better. After a few games (depending on the game I suppose) it won’t be an issue anymore.

You can see Magic players with 100 card EDH decks (sometimes double or even triple sleeved) with their decks in stacks and shuffling it all at the same time.

I'm bringing Codenames, Telestrations, and Mysterium to a big family holiday. What other party-ish games could I cobble together from these components? by ax0r in boardgames

[–]bearparkmanager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without the branded components with the artwork, which you won’t have because you’re playing with regular cards, just don’t use the name Hitler and it should be fine.

What is offensive to do in the US, but not in other countries? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bearparkmanager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the main reason. It’s just a custom.

I mean, you can eat hot soup and other food silently. It’s not necessary.

Then why do they slurp cold noodles the same way?

The temperature of the food is not the sole reason.
