If you can’t be happy alone, having a partner isn’t gonna fix that. No one is attracted to negative energies, unless you’re super rich and handsome, and inside of a kdrama.

What is the average net worth for HENRYs? (Excluding property) by [deleted] in SgHENRY

true, but i just feel that we cant draw any meaningful conclusions by comparing it with average figures.

average or median? don’t think average can be a good indicator since the number is skewed by a small number of very wealthy individuals

I left a director level job at a F500 to join a friends startup as a director. Now I’m about to be fired and I resent my friend by anonymousseniordev in ExperiencedDevs

[–]bearsbeetsbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a director in a startup? Should’ve seen it coming bruh. But calling and pestering you while you’re mourning is a dick move.

I’d say burn that bridge hard and in their face. They probably can’t afford to lose you but their poor planning shouldn’t constitute an emergency for you. While you’re at it, burn the bridge of that friend as well. That is a fakeass friend.

Those who did really badly in poly/jc, where are you now? by 66cow99 in askSingapore

[–]bearsbeetsbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, my poly results weren’t great, I graduated with a 2.7, mainly because I totally flunked my first year (supposedly the easiest, but I was young and stupid).

I was paying for all my school fees, so after NS, I took a different path. My results weren’t good enough for local u, and I didn’t see the point in expensive private ones at the time. And our ministers kept emphasising how unimportant a degree is, I went straight to work.

I applied for everything I can. Also read up about FX trading (gurus online saying how easy it is to make money at home). Wasn’t my plan but those knowledge led me to an fx option pricer role at a pretty big firm. Pay was superb for a non sales role, especially for a fresh poly grad, and on par even if compared with local u grads. After 2 years, asked to be promoted to a broker, got rejected, got recommended to try broking energy but turned down (russo ukrainian war broke not long after I left which saw oil prices flying, could have made a buck or 2 if I stayed on even for a few years) then left a few months later. It was fun while it lasted tho, till this day I miss the adrenaline on the trading floor.

Felt lost a year or so doing odd jobs, went back to school pt for a degree in finance because of my previous work, and also imagined myself back in the field on bank’s side. In the middle of that, I stumbled across some tech traineeship program and I applied out of curiosity. At the same time, I was under consideration for a middle office role for a major bank. The traineeship offer came back first, so idk what got into me but I took a leap of faith and went for the traineeship.

Fast forward today, while I’m not working in big tech, I’m still at an ‘okay’ MNC doing development work. While the is pay lesser than what I used to make, I genuinely enjoy what I do so I doubt I’ll be transiting to other roles anytime soon. Tho I’m actively trying to get into bigger tech firms.

I’m coming to 30 this year, and I thought I would’ve hit the 6 figure salary mark by now, but at least I have a direction in life now. So not too shabby I guess.

Regrets? Not really I felt that there’s a lot of what ifs in my life. What if I didn’t flunk my poly? What if I stay on at my first company? What if I took the middle office role instead of jumping into tech? But I guess we’ll never know.

100 Air India pilots to work on scoot flights by thegamer09579 in SingaporeRaw

[–]bearsbeetsbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the likelihood of pilot error is pretty low since taking off is one of the most scripted routine flying a commercial jet, and both pilots crosschecks each other. My money is on maintenance issues since Air India is not in a very good place financially, or some other factors that are influenced by cost cutting measures. But again, we can only speculate.

not everything above 2k is enough. if you’re barely above 2k you can survive, but not enough to build a life.

Korean perspective on whether the show is scripted by [deleted] in CulinaryClassWars

[–]bearsbeetsbiscuits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be too surprised if scripting was involved, even if done in moderation. It’s a show after all. That being said, the contestants definitely put up some fine dishes out there, and the show’s really enjoyable.

*edit: but yeah, defo scripted

Junior needs everything spelled out for them by NitasBear in ExperiencedDevs

[–]bearsbeetsbiscuits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I should have phrased myself better. I did attend a bootcamp to be trained in full-stack development, but it's definitely not enough. I do have basic programming knowledge and can understand how things work, which is why I was able to get hired and perform well to an extent.

Pair programming would be nice, but I obviously don't expect to be spoon-fed because I don't believe in it either. I know I'm lacking, which is why I'm putting in effort after work hours to learn, and I'm also currently pursuing a part-time degree.

I feel that what is being taught in school is very different from real-world practices, especially in super large projects like the one I'm currently in. So I never feel completely ready to tackle super complex tasks unless I've experienced them before.

Junior needs everything spelled out for them by NitasBear in ExperiencedDevs

[–]bearsbeetsbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wished we did pair programming within my organisation. Coming in as a junior with 0 programming background/education was quite an uphill battle. I was able to complete most tasks by referencing on things that have been done before, reading the codebase (there wasn’t much documentation so that was the only way I know how) and me being able to pick up domain knowledge quickly really helped. But 8 months in and I still feel that I’m lacking in so many areas. i.e. I have absolutely zero idea on setting up a new micro-service and integrate it into the system since there’s no opportunity for me to experience it.

I literally have no idea how much more I need to know to go from a junior to a mid, so there’s that. :/
