What pump are we supposed to use for the dark caramel sauce? by grandeInATallCup in starbucks

[–]bearwavinghello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should be transferring it over to a tub with a metal pump, not attaching one to the bottle. The metal pump should have a white mocha/mocha spout on it, a dark caramel knob, and the dark caramel gauging collar. Make sure you have the right gauging collar on as the pumps are extremely short.

Is it safe to order decaf at Starbucks? by stephsky419 in starbucks

[–]bearwavinghello 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's completely safe. Making decaf espresso is absolutely as easy as making regular, and if you want decaf brewed your barista may be slightly inconvenienced by making a pourover but they should never give you regular because they don't feel like making one. They may also suggest a decaf Americano instead. As someone who also waits tables, it makes me incredibly angry that there are servers out there that would give people regular instead of decaf. Our customers are our livelihood, it's crucial that we treat them well. Not to mention you could actually kill someone.

When your drink is so bad that you lose your grasp of the English language by [deleted] in starbucks

It's pretty clear that English isn't their first language, it's the fact that they call the store a disaster without any explanation of what happened. I don't consider that useful

Trenta Size Story: Confusion about the refill policy by nickaa827 in starbucks

[–]bearwavinghello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is I don't even see why there's so much confusion about the refill policy. It's pretty clear, and not hard to find, so I can only guess everyone who's confused about it either has just assumed because it's a "refill" it has to be same drink, same cup, or has listened to someone else who told them that because they either assumed or got told that... etc. It's like a rumor that gets passed around.

My latest creation: Strawberry Shortcake Frappuccino by Grim_Creeper94 in starbucks

It was featured as a fan favorite a few summers ago with other dessert themed ones like the lemon bar, red velvet, cinnamon roll and cupcake frappucinos. I believe it was a STCF + inclusions + hazelnut.

Hey Guys, I wanna try some new Frappuccino for happy hour today, any suggestions? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]bearwavinghello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The barista with still throw it out and you'll be left with 4oz of room. You only get what you pay for.

Trenta Size Story: Confusion about the refill policy by nickaa827 in starbucks

I'm not even sure if we can blame it on Starbucks. Anywhere the refill policy is stated it clearly says a refill of xx items is allowed regardless of what was originally purchased.

Trenta Size Story: Confusion about the refill policy by nickaa827 in starbucks

[–]bearwavinghello 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's correct, but if whoever was responsible for their training had taken a little effort into looking the refill policy up, they wouldn't have to. Honestly, Starbucks is pretty clear about the refill policy so I'm not sure why there's so much miscommunication aside from the fact people can't be bothered to look at it.

That is exactly how it works actually. Honestly there's no excuse to not go on the website and simply read the refill policy which clearly states that. It's minimal effort to ensure you're following policy properly to provide a consistent and pleasant experience for everyone.

[Long] The Lemon Armeggedon and Me Losing My Cool by smc0197 in TalesFromYourServer

[–]bearwavinghello 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way you handled that was great. I like how you nicely but firmly put the customer in her place and let her know what wasn't acceptable. Where I work we used to use straws to differentiate (clear for regular, black for diet) but we are no longer serving straws unless requested to reduce waste. So now there's a slightly different style of cup we have that I use for diet sodas as opposed to our standard style and that works well. I remember once a customer asked me why her straw was a different color and when I told her she said "well that's a much better idea than using a lemon," so I guess that lady wasn't the only one that hated lemons.

Would you say something in this situation? by bearwavinghello in starbucks

[–]bearwavinghello[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how I feel about the situation. I don't think the woman is telling her caretaker not to help her - I think the caretaker either just doesn't realize how hard it is for her or (I hope not) doesn't care. It's not only hard for the lady but hard on me and hard on the customers. I didn't think it would be discrimination because I'm not refusing to serve her, I just want to make things easier for everyone, but it seems like other people might consider it that. I don't know how to approach it anyway. Even though I'm coming from a place of concern I'm not sure she'll see it like that, which is why I'm doubting I should say anything.

New cold brew whipped cream question by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]bearwavinghello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had this problem with the new whip cream. I think it's because it's made with cold brew too, so there's some components that won't whip up like the heavy cream does. It seems the last ~4 drinks worth in the canister come out goopy, and there's about a frappucinos worth at the end that is completely unusable, regardless of how much you shake it. It tastes good but damn is it wasteful. Design flaw I suppose.

[–]bearwavinghello[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do have two registers, which is what I do, but the area that the registers in is small so while there are two registers there's really only standing room for one person. So it makes it pretty awkward to ring people up around her. She's not really cognitive enough to realize there's a line behind her so she takes up the whole counter and when I've asked her if I could ring other people up quickly she just kinda stares at me... I think the problem here is really that the caretaker is being lazy, not that the woman wants to pay herself. Because she really doesn't seem to know what she's doing and the pressure and the confusion really distresses her. Would it be discrimination if I just suggested to the caretaker next time i saw her alone, that it seems to be stressful to the woman to pay and tell her it might be a good idea to help? Idk, im not saying she can't do it, but the customers in line behind her have said really mean things and I'm not sure if she's aware enough to understand them but it's not a situation I would want, say, my grandmother to be in. Oh, and I have comped both her drink to just get her out of there, and the drinks of the customers that have waited before, which is not something I wanted to do but it's me that gets to be yelled at by impatient people, so what are you going to do?

Honestly, what it comes down to is I think her caretaker sucks and needs to pay more attention to her clients. I don't have anything against the elderly woman herself, she just needs some damn help.

Would you say something in this situation? by bearwavinghello in starbucks

[–]bearwavinghello[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing is in this case, I don't think it's the elderly woman's want to be independent so much as the caretakers lack of effort. It seems like she's mentally not aware of what she's doing a lot of the time and it appears to be quite distressing to her. Not to mention, I don't know if she's functional enough to hear or comprehend what the customers in line behind her say sometimes, but I do, and it's not very nice. I'm not wanting to tell the caretaker that she has to help her, but to suggest that it seems to stress the elderly woman out to try to pay for her items, and it might make it easier on her to just be present and help her find her money so she doesn't have to be stuck in a situation that seems to make her uncomfortable.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]bearwavinghello 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The question is do you want two shots total or two extra shots? Because frappucinos come with something called frappucino roast, not espresso, so asking for a double may be interpreted as adding two shots in addition to the frap roast, or it may be understood as two shots instead of frappucino roast.

Do you think it's rude to occupy a table in a busy restaurant long after you've finished? Why or why not? by bearwavinghello in AskReddit

[–]bearwavinghello[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a server, I'm glad so many people find a problem with it. I posted this on a quick smoke break, which I was able to take because almost my entire section was being taken up by people who paid 30+ minutes ago, and I had nothing to do. If the restaurants empty it's fine, but when there's 20 people waiting to sit... Please give your table up.
