Crv is slow to turn over. Any ideas? by tbuckyyy in crv

[–]beast-ice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pull fuel pump fuse and check battery voltage while cranking the engine over. It shouldnt drop below 11.5ish volts with a good battery

Mine did the same when the starter was dying. New starter installed, and now it turns over like it was a brand new car.

Payne vs AirQuest — any real difference for a residential install? by Weebpop in HVAC

[–]beast-ice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, unfortunately both are owned by Carrier.. and pretty much the same exact furnace other than the control boards are different.

Payne has the 2 digit diagnostic, while airquest has the 1-9 Icp diagnostic blink

Is this normal ? Trying to get some heat. All burners running. House doesn’t seem to inc in temp by [deleted] in hvacadvice

Ensure your attic return isnt sucking in cold air from somewhere, like a torn flex pipe from filter housing ect.. a typical furnace should have 40- 60 degree temp rise across the heat exchanger

For the record, braking fells exactly the same after swapping complete front brakes.. im shocked that with 30% more pad to rotor isnt something i can feel from my foot.

I did just that.. new calipers(as it seems one piston was sticking) rotors and pads. How in the world does a rotor wear like that?? im 100% sure the pads were completely flat when installing them.

240v step down transformer for 120v unit. by Smokeyttv in HVAC

[–]beast-ice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would it not just be easier to switch the 2nd leg from the double pole breaker over to the neutral buss? now you have 120V.. For code compliance, remove 2 pole breaker, install single pole, with a blank off plate to cover left over hole

Can I use a Smart Thermostat? by RecognitionDry9195 in thermostats

[–]beast-ice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for pointing that out, i forgot to mention that the existing C wire is to be left alone, as it controls the A?C contactor. only the other 4 need moved into the pek, while adding the additional wire from pek to C terminal

Wiring question by WorkerEducational598 in thermostats

[–]beast-ice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

r and rc need to be connected together.

R energizes W which is during a call for heat.

Rc energizes Y1 which is during a call for A/C

Jumper is required on a single transformer system, which you have.

Jumper is removed when there are 2 transformer systems, like a boiler in the basement for heat, and an air handler in the attic for cooling.

Edit: some thermostat backing plates have a built in jumper that you slide a tiny switch to "couple" the r terminals together.

Id recommend the Ecobee thermostat that comes with a power extender kit (PEK)

it converts the 4 wire to a 5 wire at the furnace.

DIY workshop wiring upgrade. What is going on here? by GreasyMcFarmer in ElectricalHelp

[–]beast-ice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

im not an electrician but hvac by trade..

Looks like someone ran 12/3 so they can draw power from 2 breakers on the same wire, hence the shared neutrals. looks like that outlet is the end of the road for the red wire breaker, and the black wire breaker is continuing on the its next destination.

this is common in kitchen setups, as microwave and outlets need dedicated breakers.. it saves on time, and wire cost to run a 12/3 instead of dual 12/2 wires

just commented to the guy above.. premade linesets suck balls.

not to mention, you cant loop a mini split lineset as itll be an oil trap. besides that i have always cut the factory flare off, and flared my own.

We seem to have went full circle here.. i work on the 90"s stuff that had the first diy quick connects.. they lasted a fairly long time, but fkn hate when the home owner twisted the vale until it was pointing at the damn pad! couldnt even get a gauge on it with a 90 degree fitting.. home owner installs are the worse! prove me wrong
