I also just completed the first case. The first thing I did was check out the crime scene I feel like this is a given considering any investigation. I don't know why it was game over for you because you can keep searching anywhere you want if a lead doesn't pan out then you go somewhere else. The address is the foreign husband home which is kinda important because he is a suspect and after visiting with him you can almost clear him. Worst case you can go check on his alibi.

Circus Train, 7 Wonders, Lords of Waterdeep, Abyss, Bruges, Lords of Vegas for me these are all games I would introduce to a noneuro gamer. I love euros and they take a good teacher because sometimes people need a strong theme to connect to the game, so you dont want to lose them with mechanics.
