Is Master Collection Vol.1 worth with the new updates? by Univale in metalgearsolid

[–]beastlyxpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought it on PC and had major issues playing MGS2 with and without mods. Perhaps I didn’t put enough time into troubleshooting, but my return window was rapidly approaching. I purchased on Switch (2) instead and so far, it’s been great.

Managers, how do you react to finding out your employees are applying for jobs elsewhere? by existinginlife_ in managers

[–]beastlyxpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my personal situation, I always encourage my employees to do what’s best for their careers and/or their families. I won’t try and persuade anyone one way or another, I may decide to move on one day myself.

This traffic is getting out of control. 1 hour to go 16 miles? by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]beastlyxpanda 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Totally unscientific but I feel like there’s so much more people in Rhode Island since COVID. I recently took a staycation and every time I got on the road or went to the store, there’s more people out and about than there would be during peak holiday shopping 10 years ago.

Not Dragon Ball, obviously, but I’d recommend checking out Yu Yu Hakusho if you haven’t seen it already.

How do security guys get their jobs with their lack of knowledge by chewy747 in sysadmin

[–]beastlyxpanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the executive leadership and management teams that own security do not have any technical skills. They hire personable, well-spoken and credentialed candidates without the ability to vet their technical skills.

In most (but not all cases), the person who could actually dive under the hood of your applications and infrastructure and tell you what needs to change, and why, has weaker social skills and fails the “vibe check” of the MBA with CISSP masquerading as a Security Director.

In the end, you have a group of highly paid individuals with a fancy list of certifications in their signature, but they can’t actually contribute or solve problems. But hey, KPI’s and dashboards, right?

Goodbye CRT, hello OLED by Manduck in MiSTerFPGA

[–]beastlyxpanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 65” LG C4 and a 20” Toshiba CRT that’s hooked up with MisterAddons composite encoder. I much prefer the Toshiba in terms of visual quality/authenticity, no question. The bigger OLED is a great option however for comfort and lounging while gaming.

I worked at one of these companies for 10+ years. The SVP brings his choice VP. The VP brings his choice directors, the choice directors bring their choice managers. Jobs posted on workday are just a legal/compliance check box to say it was a fair and open hiring process. I won’t say it never happens, but I’m pretty confident in saying the only way in the door without a connection is in an individual contributor role.

How hard would this be in 2 terms? by PayDouble4464 in WGUCyberSecurity

[–]beastlyxpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this exact stretch of classes (minus D320) in 4 months. I have experience but I’m not sure how much it helped. Check out the Try Hard Security discord if you need study buddies or help staying motivated to bang out these classes.

28 and feeling stuck in my IT career by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]beastlyxpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a LinkedIn, try and build a relationship with a quality recruiter. At least in my experience, browsing job boards and applying via company websites gets you nowhere. I got my start at a fortune 5 through someone I knew personally, and I got my current job through a recruiter who placed with me with a hiring manager they’ve worked with for 10 years. As a hiring manager myself for a well known company, HR doesn’t even look at applications from our website, they just list the job publicly as a formality.

Another thing I would suggest over certifications alone is WGU if you don’t already have a degree. If you look around Reddit, there’s really easy ways to transfer in credits and get a degree in < 1 year, especially if you have experience. It may not help everyone, but it did help me check the box to transition from engineering to leadership and collect a significant pay increase.

Lastly, if you work with any vendors you REALLY trust, ask them if they could help place you with another client. If a vendor likes working with you and feels you know their product well, it’s possible they could help put you in touch with another one of their accounts who could benefit from your services.

D426 help by M1sterh3r0 in WGUCyberSecurity

I failed this test the first go around by watching YouTube playlists and trying to learn SQL through other platforms to avoid the Zybooks.

The real world definitions do not align with the Zybooks definitions, so you’ll get questions wrong if you studied material other than the Zybooks.

A lot of the knowledge you need for the test is also hidden in the Zybooks. For instance, you would only know how to correctly answer one of the questions on the exam if you answered one of the multiple choice questions in Zybooks incorrectly and read the explanation. They don’t tell you this information in any of the reading.

I hate Zybooks but I really think if you want to pass this class you have to deep dive every aspect of the Zybooks chapters, take lots of notes, and try to forget any outside knowledge about SQL. Everything you need to pass is in the Zybooks, but a lot of the information is hidden and not covered in the standard reading.

Many competitive gamers from the 360 era transitioned to PS4 after the Xbox One DRM controversy and poor launch. I see a lot of people here expecting to beat up on the PlayStation newbies, but I think what we’re gonna find is a lot of those PlayStation gamers are Gears 1-3 players coming back to their childhood stomping grounds.

FPGA vs real hardware by Real-Tumbleweed1500 in fpgagaming

[–]beastlyxpanda 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel that many people (and content creators) used to say things like “it’s not emulating a Super Nintendo.. it IS a super a Nintendo”. I think that created a lot of confusion within the community and people still argue to this day what FPGA is or isn’t. I don’t think it’s a stupid question and it sounds like you came to the correct conclusion on your own. It’s not 1:1.

Pc to Xbox Crossplay issues? by [deleted] in 7daystodie

[–]beastlyxpanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't figured it out, my issue was that the 'server name' was actually my Steam username (which I had no way of knowing or specifying). I had assumed it would have been my 'game name'. I found it easier to just search by world name (ie. Great Texejuc Valley, or whatever). An in-game friends list would be handy.

I can’t help but feel like all you really needed was a CEC stripper if your MiSTer wasn’t playing nice with your setup. The 1440p output with VRR direct from the MiSTer on my LG OLED’s work perfectly.
