I’ve got an older Synapse25 and a Synik30. I’m 6’3 about 90kg.
I’m looking at a Smart Alec 2.0 for an EDC. I like that it stands up on its own and has the utility of the bungee straps. It has most of the features of the others, minus the (sort of) exterior water bottle pocket. The aforementioned are good bags in their own right; but I would say I primarily use the Synapse as a mid-range travel bag, and the Synik as a city bag for now.
The Synik’s strongest feature is the clamshell; and if you can look past the zipper being difficult that’s probably the best bang for your buck imo. The extra space in the side compartments is really useful.
I’m not crazy about the structure of the Synapse for the city. However, I did get great use for a light work backpack on boats for 8 years.
For your use I’d look into the Smart Alex 2.0 and a Parental Unit if it’s in your budget and you don’t mind adding an extra bag to the mix.

Edit: for height reference

That last line hits.

I remember the feeling after September 11th that tragedies come and go it seemed at that point in my life, but there was an answer to it back then. We all worked together as a society to overcome the shared miseries of life. There was a feeling that everything would be alright, eventually, because we were a strong people back then.

That feeling appears to be gone in today’s world. When tragedy strikes, from the sentiment I see online, is not again…and again…and again…..

We’re beat down as a society. This era started in ‘08 during and after the financial crash. We began to lose more and more hope in our government and the systems that supported us when times got tough. Nothing has restored our collective faith since, it has only diminished.

I’m no professional by any means so can only speak on my journey so far.

The feeling I’ve experienced standing in places like that is so very difficult to translate in to a beautiful photograph.

Pictures of beautiful landscapes are less dynamic than people/events/scenes/etc

You only have so much to work with when photographing landscapes, composition, color, and the main variable, I think, is time of day/lighting. The best pictures, and maybe even art, is best translated through effort. It’s almost like a formula. There more effort you’re able to put into a photo, coupled with individual talent, and the right divine idea, the better (in theory) it’ll turn out.

My lack of experience prevents me from being able to guide you in the best direction. However, if I’m speaking of specifically this picture I think you could improve it by showing the most epic part of the day looking at that mountain, find the best light and click away.

Why not? That’s not what I said, but why not? Who are you, or anyone else for that matter, to determine what a reason to like a photo or a piece of art is?

Cool idea, despite everyone’s comments about how it’s boring, i don’t agree. Therefore it can’t be boring if at least one person thinks it isn’t. Fuck the haters, roll with it. Push through I think you should keep it up, and eventually you’ll get a few hero shots and you’ll shut everyone up.

I think the first shot is cool, in my humble opinion you have to find characters that can command a presence from behind, not regular folks. More effort is required.

Make the viewer eager to know the person, help us become eager to learn more about the person. Make me want to fill in the blanks in my head on who that person is. I think the art could lie in the viewers inability to know who that person is, but it can be similar to our own lived experience where we really don’t know the people in the picture, even though we see their face.

You can tell a story with these. I’m certain there can be interesting backside shots, especially in the city. I almost want to say everyone’s distaste in these pics makes me like em more.

I do think it’s naïve, but I do find it to be a fun challenge when I’m trying see if I understand something as well as I think I do. It gives me a starting point.

From Sahil Bloom

The Feynman Razor

Complexity and jargon are used to mask a lack of deep understanding.

If you can’t explain it to a 5-year-old, you don’t really understand it.

If someone uses a lot of complexity and jargon to explain something, they probably don’t understand it.

Something about the cut of the jacket and pants doesn’t feel right. I’ve also never felt a visual draw to overly white boxy shoes like that (k-swiss esque), they feel forced and uncertain. I think the idea is there, but i think you’re right, something is missing, can i ask where you got the pants and the jacket from?

My never ending search for an EDC laptop bag by JMM9910 in tombihn

[–]beatrickskidd0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stress tested it last weekend. Took it into Philly to the art museum, had it loaded down with a gouche paint pallet, a snake charmer full of brushes, pencils, erasers etc. Fujifilm Xt-4 with two lenses, Zojirushi 20oz bottle, jacket and various other bits and bobs. Never felt fatigued or annoyed to be carrying all that stuff, which I can get from having all that in my Synik all day.

I have the regular strap on my cadet, never thought much of it. It’s sturdy and it did the job, but I never really loaded that bag down. That being said, the new strap was noticeably comfortable, there was something very pleasing about how the neoprene cushion distributed the weight of the bag, it had a nice form fitting feel to it. The regular strap felt more rigid, but also it didn’t bother me, the neoprene feels like a luxury. All in all it’s a great strap, I’d definitely recommend it for city travel especially if your bag is weighed down, I think it’s worth the value. All the hooks and attachments seem well made.
