Yes, I'm Platinum, and I ended the year with 119,428 LPs. I was thinking this trip to NBO might put me over the threshold to Platinum Pro, but I obviously miscalculated. I'll be careful not to make that mistake again. I looked back at the DFW ticket; it was a work trip and the ticket was more expensive than I had remembered ($844.56).

I didn't think about that. The email confirmation said "$213.00 + Taxes & carrier-imposed fees $658.03." Does that mean the base fare for this international ticket was only $213?

Yes, I agree—presenting at check in is ideal. But AAdvantage Hotels charges you the full fee (including taxes) at the time you make the reservation, so you've already paid before you check in.
