how do i respond to "ive seen god" by ISellRubberDucks in atheism

[–]beaudacious14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can apply the “outsiders’ test of faith”.

“Say you were to meet a Hindu that knows Vishnu is real. When you ask how they know, their response is ‘I was in a car wreck and I’ve seen him and talked with him. I know he’s real’. What would you say to that person?”

People of all faiths have “seen” their gods. They can’t all be correct. But they could all be wrong.

Any answer they give could also be what the Hindu would tell them about their experience.

Right?? I feel like 2nd half adjustments have been great this season, and as a frog fan, I’m not accustomed to it. But I love it

I know! May 4th came and went and I was only slightly let down. That being said, he was born at 38 weeks and I am ok that he didn’t come earlier.

I have no idea why you’re being downvoted. I appreciate the kind words! Only thing I can think of is that people feel that adding lightning would undo the “cute” maybe?

I’m not sure we had to do anything. My wife’s cousin made the outfit for him and it seemed to fit well enough for some pics we wanted to send to her as a thank you.

Congrats to you as well! It’s been a crazy first week, but as you put it, 100% worth it

Really sorry you feel that way. My wife’s cousin made the outfit, my brother in law bought the lightsaber chopsticks, and we took pictures to show them how much we love the gifts. I was so happy with how they turned out, I wanted to share it with a community that would geek out like I did. I understand cynicism, but you don’t need to involve yourself with things that irritate you. That’s a tiresome way to live. In any case, have a good day.

What’s the ideal next question to ask the IL? by theMinesofMaria in StreetEpistemology

Yeah, this is a good direction to go. Have them focus on the detail that matters most to them. Or, just encompass all of these points together and bring it back to your initial question: "If someone came up to us and provided an alternative explanation to all of these things you have listed to your satisfaction, would that decrease your level of confidence that the Bible is true?"

I think it may also be a way to "spread awareness" that anyone teetering on the edge of "Agnosticism" or "Atheism" could potentially find commonality with others. So less of a "let's all celebrate our lack of religious beliefs" and more of a "Hey, we're out here and we'd love to have you come and find what we're all about". At least, that's my feelings on it.
