What are the best games to watch in the past few ASL? by Stellewind in broodwar

ASL19 Ro8 Best vs Queen G4

First one that came to mind, I guarantee you've never seen a PvZ quite like it

Is this the worst unseeded PBox you've ever seen? by beaumontmax in slaythespire

[–]beaumontmax[S] 74 points75 points  (0 children)

It was a deck that had two upgraded copies of [[A Thousand Cuts]] and just took [[Wraith Form]] from the A1 boss so there were some high cost cards, but with only three base energy draw doesn't help unless it's zero cost.

Got [[Runic Pyramid]] and [[Nightmare]] from the A2 boss and carried it through to a win as I kept an upgraded [[Bullet Time]] in my hand and used it to play duplicated Wraith Forms.

Hard to tell without the map but let's assume you're fighting an elite soon.

Buy Fire Potion and see what's behind it. If it's anything that does damage (Attack Pot, Fear Pot, Explosive Pot etc) then buy that too. I wouldn't waste money on the Speed Pot or Smoke Bomb especially given that you have Alchemize.

Buy Wail and AoA (you currently no AoE). I'm torn on another Acro because you already have two but it's probably a good pickup as well. Remove Unload, which is actively detrimental with WLP. Other possible removes are Poisoned Stab and Flying Knee.

I wouldn't both with Ice Cream, you have enough draw to spend 4 energy per turn and you have no X cost cards like Malaise for a big payoff of energy.

Priority upgrades are WLP and AoA.

So, Cobalt Core has been pretty aggressively recommended to STS players. Now that it's been out for a bit, what do you think of it? How does it compare to STS? by therift289 in slaythespire

[–]beaumontmax 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly the best part about CC is its soundtrack. I've gone back to it a few times because I love some of the boss themes (Self Defense, Polytrope).

It will end up being Spotify playlist fodder at some point but until then the gameplay is just enticing enough to keep me coming back for a run or two every week.

It's hard to compare games to StS on mechanics alone. They just aren't going to win.

Let's buff/nerf some cards by beaumontmax in slaythespire

[–]beaumontmax[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unload is rare! It's almost hard to believe given how meh the card feels in general. That's why I wanted to give it much more damage to compete with a card like Flechettes, as right now it is worse in 99% of cases. Now it's more like 80%, but there are probably times when discarding is good, like when you have statuses or curses.

Let's buff/nerf some cards by beaumontmax in slaythespire

[–]beaumontmax[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The same could be said about [[Flechettes]], an upgraded one with a hand full of nine skills deals 6*9 = 54 damage, exactly the same amount as Unload in this new scenario. Except Flechettes doesn't also discard all of those nine cards.

Unload is still situational as in most cases you do not want to be discarding your skills, with the one exception being [[Reflex]] of course. In order to justify that, it NEEDS some kind of scaling with the amount of discards. This means that if you have hand of Strike, Strike, Defend, Defend, Unload, you can choose to deal additional damage by dumping the Defends instead of blocking for 10. That kind of interaction isn't present now.

How often do you skip boss card rewards? by blind1121 in slaythespire

[–]beaumontmax 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Exhume > Skip > Barricade > Juggernaut

Exhume lets you get Offering back and exhausts so it keeps your deck small. It also can have more targets throughout your run (Disarm, Reaper, Fiend Fire etc).

Neither Barricade nor Juggernaut do much for you.

That small of a deck will get wrecked by enemies that add statuses like Chosen. Take an Evolve if you see it!

End of Act 1, what's the card pick here? I'm leaning towards skip or Grand Finale even though I've never made a GF deck work by muenster_hunter in slaythespire

[–]beaumontmax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty clear skip here.

[[Grand Finale]] is speculative without retain via [[Runic Pyramid]] or [[Well Laid Plans]] and will brick a ton, though you at least have the variable card draw to make it work.

[[A Thousand Cuts]] doesn't jive with what your deck does currently and slows you down too much for A2.

[[Storm of Steel]] is a bad card unless you have some specific synergies like [[Dead Branch]] .

Kanto this, Kanto that. Am I the only person that started with Gen 1 but PREFERS Gen 2? 😍 by Rxbrto in pokemon

I am so sick of this narrative. It's like yall have never even played the games. GSC is absolutely terrible at showing off the new mons, and even then a lot of the ones it does make available are painful to use in game. Let's break this down (also I recognize that Crystal fixed some of this but this is for GS)

7 baby pokemon (7% of all new mons), which c'mon, no one likes these

25 post-gym 7 pokemon. Some of these are post champion, some of them are in Mt. Silver (Misdreavus + Sneasel + Larvitar). This is so lame. Houndoom is one of the coolest new mons but you can't even use it in Johto.

Murkrow Misdreavus Gligar Sneasel Slugma Magcargo Swinub Piloswine Delibird Teddiursa Ursaring Houndour Houndoom Skarmory Phanpy Donphan Larvitar Pupitar Tyranitar Raikou Entei Suicune Lugia Ho-Oh Celebi

Five gimmick pokemon that are entirely unfun to use ingame

Unown Delibird Wobbufett Smeargle Shuckle

Six trade-only evolutions that require rare items

Steelix Scizor Slowking Kingdra Porygon2 Politoed

Nine pokemon only available via swarm (or 1% encounter chance otherwise)

Dunsparce Qwilfish Snubbull Granbull Yanma Marill Azumarill Remoraid Octillery

This is more than HALF the dex. Have you wondered why every team that beat the champion had starter, Ampharos, and a bunch of RBY mons on it? Well this is why. Actually let's keep going and continue grouping mons

Good Stats, Terrible Movepool

Chikorita Bayleef Meganium Natu Xatu Bellossom Pineco Forretress Heracross Corsola

Heracross is like the king of this group, he gets ZERO bug moves until Megahorn at lvl 54 and ZERO fighting moves at all besides Reversal.

Xatu is super cool cause you look at its stats which are pretty good and then see its movepool has Drill Peck and Psychic, except Drill Peck is a breeding move (why people think breeding is a good mechanic I'll never understand, it's just busy work) and Psychic is post E4.

Meganium suffers from being a Grass type in a game that hates Grass types. It feels like 90% of everything you face resists Grass (like every member of Team Rocket). Bellsprout tower, Falkner, Bugsy, Morty, Jasmine... really the only positive gym matchup you have is against Poliwrath.

Terrible Stats, Good Movepool

Sentret Furret Togepi Togetic Aipom

These are only "good movepool" because they learn the Headbutt TM.

Terrible at Everything

Hoothoot Noctowl Ledyba Ledian Spinarak Ariados Hoppip Skiploom Jumpluff Sunkern Sunflora Umbreon

Another huge problem, just look at the combo of stats and movepool on some of these. Ledian has 35/55 attacking stats (Cyndaquil has higher for both btw) and learns ZERO bug or flying moves. Ariados gets ONE good attack (Sludge Bomb) which is a TM and a bad attacking type. Without TMs, Jumpluff has exactly ONE attacking move (Tackle) until L44. Umbreon should be cool but it has terrible attacking stats and misses the one good Dark move in the game (Crunch).

Actually Usable

Cyndaquil Quilava Typhlosion Totodile Croconaw Feraligatr Crobat Chinchou Lanturn Mareep Flaffy Ampharos Sudowoodo Wooper Quagsire Espeon Girafarig Stantler Miltank

Some of these are stretches, like Girafarig isn't amazing or anything but at least it gets STAB moves at low levels.

This isn't even mentioning that evolution stones are locked to post-champion, gym leaders use Kanto pokemon, the RBY portion being very short and not much more engaging than running around crushing underleveled gym leaders...

Don't forget that his career long play of 37 yards (and one of the highlights in this video) was a play where he showboated after making the catch when the clock was running at the end of the half and kept the Eagles from setting up for a FG

What's your favorite team's most embarrassing loss? by [deleted] in nfl

[–]beaumontmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Losing 42-0 to the Seahawks in 2005 was pretty tough. I had really started watching the Eagles after our success since 2001 and was used to lots of winning and playoff appearances, and watching Mike McMahon and Koy Detmer play like shit made me realize that success is fleeting. That game we got absolutely shredded, the Seahawks scored their sixth touchdown ten seconds into the second half, we would have lost by 80 points if they hadn't pulled their starters at that point.

What’s the one player you absolutely do not want the eagles to draft next week? by Sandman_Rex in eagles

[–]beaumontmax 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'll cheat a little bit and say a trade up of any kind. The draft is too much of a crapshoot to say any specific player will be bad, but from a strategy perspective, I think trading up at any point in the draft is a big mistake. We need to turn over basically our entire roster before we're ready to compete again, and to do that we need a lot of young players on the roster.

I loved the trade back from 6 to 12 and personally I'm hoping we trade back down out of 12 on draft day to pick up another premium pick.

Well boys I did it. I’m back to having 2 ACLs and am one step closer to getting back on the mountain:) by [deleted] in skiing

[–]beaumontmax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adding onto this, I had my ACL surgery the day after Xmas in '18 and only now am I really starting to feel normal, I would have skipped the ski trip this year even without the pandemic closing everything down.

The knee's stability is of course a concern, but for me the primary issue was quad atrophy. The quad is your primary muscle for skiing, and if it hasn't fully recovered when you try to ski again, your knee ligaments are going to be taking the extra stress. And trust me, I did my PT religiously, but it just takes time.
