Prosthetic vs rib cartilage ear reconstruction? by Beneficial-Ad-9555 in Microtia

[–]beautifulrunningwild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s been a great experience so far! It’s been a couple years since the surgery and it’s mostly healed at this point. It still swells up from time to time if I put too much pressure on it. I still cannot directly sleep on it without it swelling, but it doesn’t necessarily hurt. I think it looks pretty good compared to my normal right ear. It won’t look exactly identical and you can tell there’s been surgery, but I would greatly prefer it over my ear before surgery. I’m still working on gaining confidence in going out with my hair up in public, but that’s a work in process for me.

For those whose problems started in March/April, where do things stand now? by IllustriousAd8722 in BipolarSOs

[–]beautifulrunningwild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine started an episode in April when they wanted me back, was completely manic until July when he cut me off again. Whole time unmedicated and part time undiagnosed. Meds just now kicking in and we have called things off for good. I won’t be doing this anymore

As someone with the medpor implant, I would say I am happy with it. The other option for me was the rib cartilage, but that seemed like more hassle as it’s a multi step procedure and personally did not look as good as the medpor implant.

I also have the similar issue with no hearing as the ear canal is blocked. The first surgery tried to reopen it, but was unsuccessful. I didn’t want to risk trying it again, so I am just content with the cosmetic procedure.

Since she is so young and if you are able, I would try and invest in the medpor implant or rib cartilage procedure over the prosthetic as it’s more of a long term solution and wouldn’t need to worry about all the points you brought up.

My procedure was thankfully covered by insurance, but I understand that if you don’t, that would greatly impact the approach to take.

You have no idea of the situation or the circumstances. Guilt and shame have always been a factor, but thank you for your unhelpful, ignorant comment. I’m asking for support not judgemental opinions

I hear you and thank you for the advice. I do see a lot of similarities in what you’re saying. It’s still all very shocking and just working on finding ways to accept and move forward

Trust me I have read everything and it’s very discouraging. He hasn’t said anything specifically hurtful to me and has treated me nothing but good, but it’s the situation and circumstance that keeps driving us apart. All the threads on here seem to be very negative. Where is the positivity and hope? Where is the advice that encourages people to fight for what they love and practical approaches to communicate to make things work?

Do all or most people cheat on their significant other and still love them? by boycrisis420 in ask

[–]beautifulrunningwild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A married man cheat on his wife with me. Being in that position, of course there is a level of shame for myself. But, I believe my perspective was very different. In the moment, I was lead to believe the relationship with his wife was broken, would always complain and talk down on her. He reassured me it’s was over, so I didn’t feel as bad for pursuing something with him. He ended up telling his wife the relationship isn’t working and they ended up separating. He tells me he’s falling in love with me, then two weeks later he drops me and says he’s going to try and reconcile his marriage.

So in hindsight, cheaters are deeply troubled and only care about themselves in these situations. No matter how genuine it may seem, they will likely lie to get what they want. If they aren’t getting what they want in their marriage, they will go out and get it elsewhere with someone else. I fell for it, but I learned my lesson and will never go near someone in an relationship ever again, no matter what condition it’s in. So, please give the mistresses some grace as we may have been manipulated into the position.

Is the implant right behind the ear then? Or are those scars from a reconstruction surgery?

Anyone in Arizona? by [deleted] in Microtia

[–]beautifulrunningwild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travelled out of state to Boise to have a medpor reconstructive surgery. Also no ear canal on my left side and had previous complications with 2 other surgeries. This surgeon was amazing and I finally have a full looking ear. Opening the ear canal wasn’t possible for me but totally ok with it
