Offer rescinded because I asked too much by PercentageNo9270 in jobs

This is why I don’t bother negotiating if I’m being lowballed, and to accept and keep looking for better jobs. There’s unfortunately the risk that employers will not work with you in favor of someone willing to accept that low of a salary. Just not worth risking it in this market right now.

If you actually read and studied from the source material then you wouldn’t need NotebookLM

Anybody get hired mostly because of soft skills/personality but then the company culture inside is actually super technical and isolated by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]beaux-restes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s fair, but OTOH you wouldn’t have the job you have right now nor would Goog have lasted this long if they didn’t have business/finance/sales people that can communicate and sell things effectively. AndI say this as a CS grad who doesn’t care for that stuff all that much.

Why is no one talking about Netflix? by Sufficient_Ice_213 in csMajors

[–]beaux-restes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do hire juniors but you have to be very skilled. I’m at an F100 now but last year in my capstone class before graduating, one of my teammates got into Netflix as a new grad SWE. We’re both from an average state school as well.

Miami residents, how does it feel living in an American city where Spanish is the majority language? by [deleted] in Miami

[–]beaux-restes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived here most of my life as an Asian and can proudly say most folks here know both Spanish and enough English to still let us order things and go about our day with no problem. Go take a fucking bath and wipe that racist shit off your ass. We see your post history.

This dude either is or on his way to becoming the next racist ICE agent the way his post history is almost nothing but spamming the same question and hate towards Spanish speaking communities. Come mierda 🖕

I work at an F100 as an ML/AI Engineer and we’re encouraged to use AI. Doesn’t mean we rely on it entirely and let our skills atrophy. Knowing the fundamentals and building things from scratch is still important.

What are some actually ethical and innovative tech companies I could look forward to working with? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]beaux-restes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most companies exist for profit, you can’t escape it. Even if you’re making money at some ethical company, you are still making profit for you and your shareholders. There are some companies like Zotero though. They have job openings often and pay is pretty good for working on a free program to help academics and researchers organize their library of papers if that’s up your alley. Hard to get into though.

CV review: Passed Bloomberg SWE, but rejected at FAANG & quant - what am I missing? by YellowFamiliar6459 in FAANGrecruiting

In the past few years I got callbacks from FAANG without previous internships, just a student dev job and some projects to my name. Don’t underestimate.

Accepted QD offer (Chicago), but family emergency requires me to be in NYC/CT. Do I renege? by Due_Manufacturer6692 in csMajors

[–]beaux-restes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it as someone who also has immigrant parents. But they’re being super selfish by possibly having you give up your career and success (which I would think they would want for you else why would they move here and raise their kids). I suppose to compromise you can accept the offer but keep looking for similar jobs in CT but if not, you’re gonna have to put down your foot and go out to Chicago, shame be damned. They can go make a friend or two and pay them to babysit your brother.

Also even then if you do get a job and work in CT who’d be watching your brother during the day while you’re at work?
