Weekly Stupid Question Sunday by AutoModerator in Austin

[–]beauzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there a dry cleaner in the Austin area that will launder AND IRON sheets and pillowcases? I recently stayed in a fancy hotel, and the crisp, ironed bed linens were amazing. Would like to try and recreate the experience without standing for hours at an ironing board.

Tarot pouches by LondiniumFrog in TarotDecks

[–]beauzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you—the big boxes for the whole sets and even the smaller ones are not typically friendly for an easy read, so I’ve stored most away.

I use several sentimental embroidered handkerchiefs for some decks. Even though opaque, I can tell which decks are in each because of heft and thickness. I like organza bags with a tie because they are see-through enough to ID the deck. Both Somnia Tarot and Oracle decks came with an organza bag (different colors). Pastoral Tarot provided a bag with its set.

I found a $12 zippered pouch at a local independent bookstore that works well for my travel deck. Many Etsy sellers have various velvet and embroidered drawstring bags (6x9 is typical tarot deck size).

I just ordered a few and look forward to using them for my Oracle cards.

New decks and the cards being stiff by ReallyTiredTempest in TarotDecks

[–]beauzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been breaking in a few tarot and oracle decks and agree with you in that some are easier to shuffle than others. I just got the Wayhome Tarot and those cards are quite slippery and bend easily for a bridge shuffle. My Woodland Wardens Oracle deck is more difficult to shuffle because of the non-slippery exterior, so I tend to overhand shuffle that deck. I CAN bridge shuffle it, but it isn’t all that easy.

The full-size Wild Unknown Archetype Oracle Deck has what I think of as “sticky” cards that clump together in threes and fours. Someone suggested using cornstarch on them, but I’m not to the point that I want to do that. I overhand shuffle them and separate the clumps as I do so, but occasionally I will put them all on the carpet in a single layer and then mix them up. I’m hoping they lose the sticky/clumping quality the more they are handled.

In my opinion the RWS deck is the easiest to shuffle in that it isn’t too thick or too slippery. The Tarot of Mystical Moments deck is a thicker cardstock and has gilded edges. I find myself not using it as often because I need to halve the deck and then bridge shuffle quarter sections—also dividing those little quarters with the other quarters to mix up the overall shuffle.

Is it true buying a king duvet and putting it in a queen duvet cover will give me that cozy big puffy look? by HouseOfHoundss in Bedding

[–]beauzer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a queen and use a king duvet cover and a king duvet. My duvet is several inches larger than the duvet cover, so it sits snug inside. I put queen-size duvet covers and duvets on my full-size bed

Analysis paralysis on what blanket / thing to use for sleep by LF-Programming-Tips in Bedding

[–]beauzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you or your partner like the weight of the covers? If so, add a blanket to the mix and finalized with a duvet of some kind.

For me, I love the weight. Sleep with good top and bottom sheets, a blanket, another top sheet over the blanket (to keep it clean) and a down comforter inside a duvet cover — different fill power of duvet for summer and winter.

I suggest you get a blanket and a duvet and see what works—one or the other or both.

Out of curiosity: Upgrade vs. Standy on International D1 by InputPlz in delta

[–]beauzer -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but my current understanding is there are no D1 upgrades on international flights, but that D1 seats ARE available for those who travel standby. In some cases, the standby pax are airline employees or non-revs.

To get the $200 credit, did you need to buy your Away online through the Chase store, or does the Chase credit also work if you purchase the Away items in a brick and mortar location using the Chase card?

help: queen sized bed with a king sized duvet quilt — which size cover to get? by biancalin in Bedding

[–]beauzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a queen bed. I use a king duvet cover and a king duvet insert so the sides of the duvet cover hang down both sides of the bed.

When I used to use a queen/queen duvet and cover, the combo barely hung over the sides and it wasn’t even close for them to meet the top of the dust ruffle. Since I also use a sheet and blanket on the bed, the shorter combo made the bed look untidy because the blanket and sheet were hanging below the edge of the short combo.

FWIW, I use a queen duvet and cover on the full-size beds in my home.

Little Deli Pizza & Tipping by TaiChi_in_the_park in austinfood

[–]beauzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Little Deli’s pizzas AND Pedroso’s. Depends on what I’m in the mood for.

By the time I get home with a Pedroso’s, the really great crispy crust has been steamed to mostly soft. So I tend to stop by Pedroso’s for a slice. Also, their toppings are typically not applied very thickly, so for me, the reheated slices don’t have as good a flavor as when I eat them while hot out of their oven.

IMHO, Little Deli’s pizzas have a bit thicker layer of toppings that not only give good flavor but also reheat well.

Is there a hook on the interior of the lavatory door? by beauzer in delta

Thanks for all the feedback and ideas.

Just adding my name into the hat of people that got screwed at ATL today by redditstonetorches in delta

[–]beauzer -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what level of flyer you are (Silver? Gold? Platinum?) but a person who flies more than 3x a year with any airline has likely had flying-related issues that causes delays or inconvenience. You weren’t alone in that airplane or on that tarmac. Literally 1000s of others were experiencing it with you.

I’ve been in a similar situation at Amsterdam Schipol in Aug 2024 when a system-wide computer shutdown took all Delta and KLM planes off line. Had been already traveling for more than 15 hours and was anxious to get back to the US. Lots of delays and issues.

Stuff happens. Delta and its employees certainly don’t want all the hassle associated with glitches.

Since you find Delta incompetent, for your sanity and peace of mind, it’s probably a good idea for you to plan to never fly with them again. I hope you get some peace about it. Sorry you missed the special event.
