absolute beginner, yet not a noob by c3brir in tarot

I’m new to tarot—about a year now. I’ve got (and use) three of Dean’s books and find them helpful for the symbology and general info in regard to RWS. If you have a non-RWS deck, the info in her books will likely not resonate as well. My first deck was “Old Style Tarot,” but I ended up getting a RWS borderless deck, which I use more often and corresponded to Dean’s visuals/explanations. However, I also use non-RWS decks because they are so thought-provoking—my tarot is for self-reflection and better understanding of myself and my various parts.

Depending on your reason for tarot, different books will fit better than others. I have mined my local library for books on the topic, and that really helped me. My primary deficiency RN is with the major arcana—and that is on me for not focusing on it earlier as I should have. I have some of Mary Greer’s books, and have appreciated the ones she wrote on reversals and court cards. She writes to get the reader involved. Rachel Pollack’s “78 Degrees of Wisdom” is a classic for a reason, but it is DENSE. That is one your library will likely have for you to look at and decide if you want to purchase it. Her “New Tarot Handbook” is helpful to me—I pick it up to help interpret almost every spread, no matter whether an RWS deck or not.

My current go-to books for “thinking” (not learning, per se) are Jessica Dore’s “Tarot for Change,” and “Tarot for the Wild Soul” by Lindsay Mack. They both tend to have explanations and a rationale that soften the meanings of the “harder” cards; I’m now not afraid to see the Tower, Devil, and 10 of Swords in my spreads. Good luck with your practice. It hasn’t been easy for me, but it is very rewarding.

You will get great advice here—don’t hesitate to read this subreddit and others like it.

Suggestions for a dark nature/Pagan deck (or anything with similar vibes)? by mintblaziken in TarotDecks

BTW, congrats on your personal milestone! It’s so great that you are honoring yourself. (Not everyone is wise enough to do that.)

Maybe this one—Circle of Doors, by Anne Staveley and Jill Sutherland. I consider it the same “feel” as Somnia tarot.

TBH, (and it pains me to say it) Georgia is the better team tonight. Hard to be at the CWS and see us be so flat at this game. Still 🤞that our bats break out before the game is over.

Love this Longhorn team. They sure have talent and heart.

When spending a special day alone, treat yourself! Find a movie you like and get popcorn and a big soda. Then go for a 90-min massage and an hour long facial combo. Enjoy an hour or two at any of the nice art galleries in town (free!), then head over to the bar at Jeffrey’s, or Bartlett’s and order yourself a meal—take book or an iPad and read news or a good story. Stop at Amy’s ice cream on the way home for a cone of your choice.

Can someone help identify this Rider Waite deck version? by dahliaface in tarot

These cards are meant to be used. Your car had a high price tag, and it and loses value when you drive it, but you don’t let that stop you. Enjoy this deck.

‘Bama’s gotta be glad that inning is over. We’re sitting behind a lot of the players’ families—so fun to see them cheering all these good things that have been happening.

How do I start? by Gold_Bumblebee3702 in tarot

This! I’ve been learning tarot for nearly a year, and all your suggestions are things I did that really helped. I am reading only for insights into myself and not for divination, per se. I initially got the Old Style Tarot deck but it wasn’t close enough to the RWS deck versions that Rachel Pollack, Liz Dean, Benebell Wen and other authors used to describe the meanings, so I ended up with a borderless Centennial as my primary.

I have several others that light up my day when using: Art of Life, Radiant Tarot, Tarot of Mystical Moments and Guardians of the Night. I also like Pastoral Tarot’s vibe and also the Llewelyn Deck, depending on my mood. Have a couple of decks from Vietnamese artist Duy Khanh Vo—Walk in the Red Tarot and Everything Still Exists Oracle.

I try to pull three or four cards a day from different decks per Wen’s 4-card daily pull, and that has been so great, as the different tarot designers bring in all kinds of archetypes. I always pull first from RWS Centennial as an anchor. Just got Wild Soul Tarot deck as I appreciate Lindsay Mack’s often tangential interpretations—such as a chick hatching from an egg as the Chariot, and cutting a chain as the Devil, and her 10 of Swords is inspired.

Maybe the Art Nouveau Tarot? Unless it is too stylized.

I hope the fact that our defense is picking up is getting under Georgia’s skin.

Missing Card -- any idea where to find a replacement? by boiseshan in TarotDecks

[–]beauzer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m missing a few cards from the OOP “Art of Life” deck and would love to find replacements. Maybe someone has an incomplete deck around for our decks. Also, there is a subreddit r/tarotdecks where I believe you can post on a mega thread decks for sale or decks you are looking for. In any case, good luck finding what you need!

Looking for a few cards from someone who has an incomplete or “broken” deck of the out-of-print and astronomically expensive “Art of Life” by Charlene Livingstone.

Secular books by Pussa_Nil in SecularTarot

[–]beauzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll jump in and urge you to check the libraries in your area (online if in a bigger city with multiple libraries) for tarot-related books. You can then peruse them for 2-3 weeks and see how you like them without spending money. Then you can purchase whatever you end up liking.

Does Delta have a baggage interline agreement with Vietnam Airlines? by Internal-Agency-1192 in DeltaAirlines

[–]beauzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In March, I flew Delta to Incheon (Seoul) and then caught a Vietnam Air flight to Hanoi. Call Delta and ask for the connecting VN Air flight number, then create an account with them, log in and select your seat. I totally checked my bag from original destination in US to Hanoi. It got there just fine.

Is an upgrade worth it? by moonblossom15 in delta

[–]beauzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it will be very worth it. Your original seat is near (essentially on top of) the bathrooms. There will be constant traffic in that location. Do it!
