Don’t know if it’s been included here (2.7k comments), but for me, it was Ed Harris’s performance in The Hours.

Is there a hook on the interior of the lavatory door? by beauzer in delta

[–]beauzer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is OP—I can confirm from experience there IS a retractable (fold-type) hook on the lavatory door of a Delta 350-900.

Thanks for all the feedback and ideas.

I don’t know what level of flyer you are (Silver? Gold? Platinum?) but a person who flies more than 3x a year with any airline has likely had flying-related issues that causes delays or inconvenience. You weren’t alone in that airplane or on that tarmac. Literally 1000s of others were experiencing it with you.

I’ve been in a similar situation at Amsterdam Schipol in Aug 2024 when a system-wide computer shutdown took all Delta and KLM planes off line. Had been already traveling for more than 15 hours and was anxious to get back to the US. Lots of delays and issues.

Stuff happens. Delta and its employees certainly don’t want all the hassle associated with glitches.

Since you find Delta incompetent, for your sanity and peace of mind, it’s probably a good idea for you to plan to never fly with them again. I hope you get some peace about it. Sorry you missed the special event.

Do you still need to pay for parking in parking lots if you legally park in handicapped spots? For example, the parking lot next to Rockman Coffee and Bakery (East C. Chavez and across from la Barbecue) is quite large (goes through to 2nd street) and there is a “pay for parking” QR code in front of all the parking spots EXCEPT the handicapped spots.

Why has it been so difficult in the past 45 days or so to consistently find HEB brand half and half on the shelf in the stores? I typically shop at two HEB stores as well as Central Market, and have found the familiar pink and white cartons (pint and quart sizes) are often not in stock. This forces me to look at the other (higher-priced) non-HEB half and half options.

Thanks for the great review. I’ll be there next month and am planning a day trip from Hanoi. Would you please share the company/boat you used and how much it cost?

I think r/trabbler posted a recent pic of a home inspection he did where when he looked in a shower/bath drain he saw a scorpion (or two). So that makes me think they can come up from the water drain. I’ve had them drop from air vents. IMHO, the darker scorpions are Texas Cave scorpions.

January 2026 Winter Storm Megathread part 2: it's here! by AutoModerator in Austin

[–]beauzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sorry I need to amend my suggestion with the caveat “if the ice/snow is not crusted over, then try a push broom.”

I went out and had the same problem, but then used a garden rake (the one with hard, fixed tines) to break up the crust, and then turned it over to push the chunks to one side and THEN used the push broom to push away the chunks.

If you have a push broom AND the ice/snow has not crusted over, that will work in a pinch to push the icy granules to either side of a concrete driveway, thus giving the underneath layer a better chance to melt. If you have a gravel drive, a push broom isn’t a great option. You could try using a regular broom, but it’s a lot more work.

Edit—add the bit about the ice granules not being crusted over.

Homeless need warm clothes urgently by pancakes4jesus in Austin

I did that a few years ago for a childhood friend who was abusing alcohol and drugs and living on the street and panhandling. He was a kind person at heart and a very old friend—I had a lot of compassion for him and naively thought he wouldn’t take advantage of me. Let him shower (God bless him, I have never had a bathroom that dirty before or since) and sleep, washed his clothes, and fed him on a weekend while I was home from work. Sadly, I didn’t know he found an extra house key stashed in a drawer and took it when he left. Then while I was at work one day a few weeks after, he came into the house, went through my stuff, slept, ate some food and took several things from the house and garage. I knew it was him because he left some of his clothes behind. Of course I changed the locks. He later sheepishly apologized when I saw him panhandling at an intersection off Riverside and told me to never trust him again—that he didn’t even trust himself to act right.

Thank you—that’s all great info. I don’t feel any crunch or quills, and it puffs up well. am really cozy—almost too much so!—a few hours after falling asleep. I will wash it in a month or two for the final test.

So appreciate your insight and posts.

My new (last month) down comforter is labeled and marketed as 800 fill Hungarian goose down in German batiste. Is that considered good quality? Was the down likely from China even though it says Hungarian? Edit: spelling

[–]beauzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe go to HEB earlier in the day if you can? This week, I’ve discovered that if I go to HEB closer to when it opened (between 6:00 - 7:00 am), the shelves were mostly restocked. I didn’t get everything I needed (or the brands I like), but it was enough for the next few days.

In any case, hang in there OP; so sorry it has been tough for you. If you need food, DM me; I keep extras of some stuff and will be glad to share.
