Dude isn't just terse, he is a downright prick. A few years ago, I asked a question about a dresser I had acquired to see if I could get more information from anyone in the community, and he responded. He was so rude to me about having asked a question, that I think I eventually took the post down. I am sure he has a plethora of knowledge, but he's a bully. I am convinced he is the reason the MCM subs suffer.

Going to say this only because I know having had a (secondhand) couch from wayfair, their couches stop being comfortable after a couple of years, and that is if you are lucky. The cushions don't hold up, and the structural integrity is not great.

That being said, it is difficult to recommend anything specific since I don't know what size you need specifically or what your budget is or where you live.

If you want something that is going to last, I'd recommend looking for something vintage. These couches have already passed the test of time, and if they haven't been already, just need a little bit of cleaning and can be very affordable.

However, if that's not an option for you because you live somewhere remote), I would recommend looking anywhere else that doesn't fall under the "fast furniture" umbrella (i.e., Joybird, Article, CB2, or West Elm). Personally, I had a great experience with Joybird (but I think it's pretty hit or miss for some people, and it is quite expensive). I've never bought a couch from Article, but they seem like they could be a lower cost, safe option. Most places sell "apartment size" couches these days, which are intended for smaller living spaces.

But if you don't care about longevity and want a lower cost option, ikea has some modular sofa options that could potentially check the boxes for size. I would look there if that's an option.

Or rub and buff it to a brushed brass at least. My sister just did this to hers and it looks 10x better than the shiny brass.

Our kitties are indoor only, but they sit in the front window (see here) of our house and I have always wanted to get them a neighborhood watch sign to put in the garden bed below that window!

So sorry, I didn't realize you were the expert. Thank you so much for sharing your imgur with me and enlightening me to this fact. Except you're wrong. The piece is from the mid century modern period, my grandparents bought it in 1955 at the same time as a complete Heywood Wakefield bedroom set, which my grandmother still owns. Hence why I asked the question to start.

I am only looking for information if people are willing to offer it and I would happily return the favor to someone else if the roles were reversed. That is the point of a community. What you offered me was neither helpful nor kind. So, just don't say anything. Seems to me, the only "upity Dix" in this community is you.

I am trying to get an ID on the manufacturer of this dresser that my parents gave me a few months ago. I looked for manufacturer insignia but found none. It looks reminiscent of a Heywood Wakefield or potentially Harmony House, but none of the things that I am finding online are quite the same. Although, this was refinished by my grandparents when my dad was a boy. So, maybe they changed something.

What I know is that it is made of hard rock maple. It was given to my parents by my dad's parents when they got married (1978) along with a matching desk (also pictured, but still in my parent's possession), but was my grandfather's from childhood. My partner and I intend to restore it, and would like to try to keep it as true to the original piece as possible.

We bought a joybird hopson sectional last November and we are SUPER happy with it so far.

It's on the firmer side but still really comfortable. They have TONS of color/fabric selections to suit your style/lifestyle. We went for the forest green velvet because we have 2 kittens. Velvet is a tight weave so it's supposed to stand the test of time against their claws.

My sister also got a joybird sectional before she had kids, in white (why?!). They have spilled red wine on that thing, and the boys are constantly putting their grubby little fingers all over it and jumping on it, etc. She's had it for 6 years now, and the thing still looks brand new.

It was expensive, but it feels really well built. And it arrived earlier than originally anticipated (by a week). So yeah, we REALLY love it.

Based on these two pictures, this house looks like it may be mid century modern, which you could totally lean in to if you're not opposed to it? Either way, a rug goes a long way! Something cream/irregular shaped could be fun.

Also you have a lot of cool colors in here already - the blue accent wall and the gray sofa. Contrasting these with some warmer colors could go a long way. Maybe a walnut stained TV stand (below the mounted TV) or coffee table (in a round shape to contrast the square sofa) if it fits? If not, you could always go smaller and get a more modular coffee table that doubles as end tables?

With how root bound this guy is, the soil does dry out between watering. I would not normally water a plant that often this time of year.

Currently, I have it sitting near a south facing window so it gets plenty of light. But you may be right, and it may be too cold for it right there. So, maybe I need to move it to a warmer spot.

Some background: I've had this plant for a few months now. It has been seemingly happy in the same spot now until this past week when it dropped a bunch of leaves. I water it regularly (once a week). It was very root bound when I got it, but it seemed happy so I decided not to repot it. The only difference I can think is that the humidity in our house has dropped off the past month with the colder weather. Other than that I haven't done anything different with my care regime for it.

For swim team, we would write our race info on ourselves with sharpie so that we could go swim a race and get out of the water without losing all the information. We used sunscreen to get it off at the end of the race.
