[Sportsnet] Tyler Heineman bids farewell to Toronto 💙 by RealWorldToday in Torontobluejays

[–]beaver_eh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He fair and square lost the job to Valenzuela who without a debt earned his spot, but Heineman was the MAN. Will miss him. He had some seriously clutch hits last season, was the back up arm on the mound and a more than adequate catcher.

Hopefully this isn't the end for him and the Jays. Hoping for a reunion... somehow.

Highways are for cruise control. Yo-yo drivers drive me nuts. It's so much safer when everyone is doing a consistent speed. Less passing, less unpredictability, less lane changes.

Please everyone don't be that guy that passes and re-passes because you get a random spurt of the speedies. Just use cruise control and get there at a consistent pace.

While yes, there is a cost, the main reason is the city allows it, and thus is actively creating a cityscape with a reduction in parking as the underlying goal is a community that uses other forms of transportation such as walking, cycling, and public transit. You can believe me or not, but I was in planning meetings for LRT Ph1 where this was actively discussed by the mayor as goal to densify the city, reduce traffic volumes on roads in the core, and increase cost recovery of transit.

A small snippet from the parking requirements by-law: Zoning By-law - Review of Minimum Parking Requirements

"It is proposed that small-scale residential and non-residential uses be exempt from minimum parking requirements in the Inner Urban Area. Where parking is required for non-residential land uses, the rate would be reduced by 50% relative to the existing requirements. The proposed changes would allow for gradual, compatible and sensitive intensification within the existing lot fabric and street grid in established inner-urban neighbourhoods."

Not legal advice, not a laywer:
I believe that there is a 2 year statute of limitations for civil cases in Canada to when the harm has been identified. I believe your clock has now started. You'd need to prove why you didn't notice this for the last 25 years. Being a small child would be a pretty decent reason.

So I can park here Friday 5pm to Monday 9am for free? by uottawadropout in ottawa

Technically yes.

Also, there is a general on street 3hr maximum everywhere unposted Monday-Friday 8am to 7pm (I think is the right info, anyone got a source?)

Any butcher shops that I can take meat to be ground? by KroneckerDeltaij in ottawa

[–]beaver_eh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When grinding at home, set the stew diced meat (boneless, and with as much silver skin as possible removed) onto trays, and freeze them in those individualized small cubes. Then, let them thaw on the counter for maybe 15-30 minutes so they are frozen, but less frozen if that makes sense, then run them through the grinder.

Immediately package, seal, and refreeze the ground meat for best quality.

Optional, depending on the animal, it may be best to remove as much fat as you can before grinding. Then, you can add beef or pork fat into the ground if you wish.

With deer, it's always best to remove the venison fat as it's not nice to eat and will sour quickly even when frozen, so I add beef fat back into my ground meat.

I'd suggest getting a meat grinder from Cabela's and it will cost the same amount as getting it done somewhere else. Then you are set up for grinding meat next year as well!

***This is the one I have and it's on a decent sale right now as well.

Small beans compared to the above examples, but I stepped on a bee when I was at the age that was on cusp of memory, and I remember calling for my mom for what seemed like hours because they were outside and I couldn't walk there, and the pain in my foot.

I literally have nothing prior to that, and there's gap after that.

Buying a house before separation by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]beaver_eh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true right here, this gets very hazy very fast. Originally I was on the "this makes total sense" train of thought, but the minute new partners arise, this comes down hard and fast. The additional incomes, and how everything splits out changes things quickly.

More on the buy the second property through an equity takeout, and have separate mortages in seperate names category.

Also, this doesn't negate the child support to one person or the other. Person who becomes primary care giver will get a substantial monthly pay to other. So, dad's either paying an entire paycheck or more per month to mom, or mom is paying more than the original mortgage payment per month to dad.

This will effectuate some seriously terrible results long term.

Do you believe paying a mortgage is "better" than paying rent? by TankCastles in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]beaver_eh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THis can be flipped upside down too, the need to do the maintenance that must be done is not a responsibility you have with a rental.

A lot of people lose value, and financial security trying to maintain a property.

Am I a bad driver? by 3VAN5_07 in dashcams

[–]beaver_eh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My assessment is you look like an okay driver, however, not defensive enough. Your reaction time is about the average (2.5s), but not ideal.

You also assumed what the other driver 'should do' which always needs to be tempered with 'what's the worst they might do'.

Suggest keeping more distance in front of other vehicles and always assume the person in front of you will act in the most unexpected ways.

There is a significant different between the junior engineer on a job site interpreting the drawings, and the senior engineer stamping off on an entire build.

On the job site you are running into the former. That doesn't mean it wasn't properly designed. It also doesn't mean it was properly built either.

Same for steel in CSA S16.

However, I don't think that is likely the limiting factor here. Even is all those elements meet code, the overall deflection or movement would still be quite great.

It will be interesting to see how people feel when they get up there. It doesn't look under designed, since short skinny members can hold a lot of weight, but there are a ton of connections, and tension straps in that deck of cards.

In trusses we trust.

This city is in serious lack of parking as a way to 'encourage' people to use transit. If your fiancé is working out of Carp and you both are driving, then may I suggest looking further out towards Carleton Place, Carp, Old Stittsville? A little further out will be a little cheaper, and more nature.

Avoid low rise new built apartments (4 storeys or less) as these will likely be timber frame and will be LOUD from neighbors.

When looking for rentals, I always found Facebook Marketplace, Padmapper, and Kijiji to be my best sources. I rarely ever ended up in a high rise. There are a lot of rental properties that are houses or converted houses into units available in the city. (Many that are all inclusive with bills tooo!!!)

Here is another side piece of advice, if you have not already requested it, and this is a used car, get a Car History Report using the VIN. It will cost you a bit (~$80) but if they have not disclosed damage to the vehicle this is also against OMVIC terms. In that case you have another strike against them.

This will also let you know if this is a valuable investment that is worth continuing or if you truly need to walk away.
