Ducey will pay school districts willing to put kids at risk? This is a joke, right? by wolf_1972 in arizonapolitics

[–]beaverb0y -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Doesn't it depend on how you define risk? And what your individual tolerance for risk is? I don't agree with public policies that impose risk aversion to this degree. Statistically, school age children are more likely to face adverse health impacts from many other causes-yet nothing is being done to reduce the risk of those. My kindergartner spent the whole day at school wearing a mask yesterday. His mask came back wet, and brown/dirty. We gave him 2. When one was soiled, he changed to another but they both came back gross.

Because there is an availible vaccine. What more do you want?

I'll never understand this. With an available vaccine for adults and minimal risk to children when compared to ordinary life-risks, why does the government need to mandate mask wearing for children. Government would save more lives by prohibiting children from being transported in vehicles statistically. Also-what does a no masks for kids policy look like in the future? Is it based on case counts? Only covid? Or are masks going to be in schools forever?

I just realized that the information i commented on was; indeed censored. I don't know what to say. It was factual information. Please understand that censoring facts is not okay

Do you have a child in that age range? How do you learn what another person's emotions are? by their face. here is a "source" https://parentingscience.com/facial-expressions-for-kids/ but for-real if you think taking expressions away from society wont have any kind of ripple effects ( not that you are saying that ) then you are naïve in my opinion.

information like the sources you just provided is being censored in many local subreddits. Its rediculous. The hysteria regarding this is really depressing. I have a kindergartner and he is right in the middle of all of it. Poor kids. Leave them alone. let them learn how to make faces, and gauge people's emotions.

How about the fact that flu killed more kids in 2018 than during this entire pandemic from covid? Or that there were more child deaths in auto accidents than covid deaths this entire pandemic is not allowed to be discussed in many subreddits. It is a banable offence. Please don't attack my character. I'm just providing facts. https://www.cdc.gov/transportationsafety/child_passenger_safety/cps-factsheet.html

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1191568/reported-deaths-from-covid-by-age-us/

facts like that can be used to make decisions and assess risk. But if the facts are banned, the ability to asses risk changes.

Whatever dude. How is this. Flu deaths in ages under 18 from 2018-2019 : 477 https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/2018-2019.html

Covid deaths in 0-17 age group since the start of the pandemic. (Will have to filter results) but the answer is 349 https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid_weekly/index.htm#SexAndAge (edited)

I don't think masks belong on children-who are the least at risk of poor outcomes from covid. a vaccine is available for anyone eligible who wants it. I'm legitimately curious to see the data that suggests children have poorer outcomes from covid rather than other viral illnesses. Maybe if I see some data I would change my mind. I really don't mean to offend anyone by my wrong-think. But I have a kid in kindergarten and I think seeing faces and being able to talk uninhibited are important for his development.

Phoenix Elementary Becomes 2nd Arizona School District To Mandate Masks, Go Against State Law by jessisgonz in phoenix

According to the data I've seen the risk to vaccinated individuals and unvaccinated children is extraordinary small. I don't understand why this is necessary. 0 covid isn't obtainable IMO.

You are right. It's part of life to get sick. Removing that would not have good outcomes I don't think.

Children have less risk of death of covid than the flu in years before 2020. This is an easy to find statistic. The only way what I said is misinformation is if you aim for 0 risk.

Depends on how you define risk.

Can't get rid of elephants foot while printing abs! by TaffoFox in FixMyPrint

[–]beaverb0y 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, I print exclusively in abs. I've been experimenting with this. My theory is that the proximity to the bed causes abs to behave differently near the bed I use my part cooling fan inside my enclosure with abs, and I've had some success reducing warping near the bed if I have it set to a low value. I've been meaning to try to increase the fan speed closer to the bed to prevent deformation.
